My training has centered on helping LGBTQ+ folks and survivors of trauma build resilience.
What is meaningful and important to you? This is different for everyone and can change for anyone in a given day. My approach to therapy is guided by the things you hold as valuable, and what they mean for you; all while using a trauma-informed and queer affirming framework. I strive to provide a safe space without judgment. I have worked with people of all ages who have survived trauma & I also have experience working with LGBTQ+ folks in health related issues, coming out, violent experiences, internalized homophobia/transphobia, transitioning, adverse military experiences, & building resilience, etc.

Has grief stolen your joy? Has trauma ripped the rug out from beneath you? Have you experienced an unexpected or sudden loss? If so, I’d bet you’re overwhelmed with how to find your footing in a world that doesn’t slow down. I’d also guess you’ve begun to distance yourself from friends and family because you feel misunderstood, and maybe even minimized, in how you're navigating the aftermath. The weight of grief and trauma can be paralyzing, causing us to disconnect from the support we need. I'm Heather, and I’d love to help shoulder some of that weight while we integrate the grief and trauma in a way that doesn’t feel so heavy.

From anxiety, depression, and life transitions - to bereavement and trauma work, every issue counts.
It is an honor to walk with individuals through their most difficult, anxiety provoking and painful times in life- in a safe, non-judgmental, and non-biased atmosphere. My goal is to collaboratively identify personal strengths, extract meaning, utilize effective coping skills, and develop a new understanding of self, in order to help you get the most out of life. The therapeutic alliance is built on trust, immediacy, and honest, open communication. Even if the process is new to you - if you are ready to honestly face your life circumstances, fears, anxieties, and choices - I am ready to assist you.

Clients with trauma history and attachment wounds will find the combination of these approaches particularly helpful.
Have you ever endearingly called yourself a "hot mess?" Do you love Jesus but you curse a little? If you don't know where you want to go but you're sure you can't stay where you're at: welcome. With me, you'll find no judgement, plenty of laughs (both with you and at you) and the GPS you've been looking for on this crazy journey. It's time to slip into the drivers seat and find the best route to the life you've always wanted.

Are you sick and tired of being stuck and feeling pained because of trauma and past painful experiences? Are you not sure about your life story and what it really means to be you? Do you feel slighted, and minimized by others? Do you have few people who really understand where you are coming from? Trauma can bring and keep individuals down sometimes with and even without provocation. If you have not been helped by talk therapy then art therapy coupled with Advanced Integrative Therapy and/or addiction counseling may put you on the fast track to recovery.

EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.
I have a special interest in working with individuals who are trying to change their lives in a fundamental way. These areas can include: substance abuse, relationships and the impact that chronic illness has on our lives. I have been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help treat PTSD, sexual trauma and other behavioral issues. I offer an initial 20-minute free, face-to-face consultation. My main interest is that you receive the help you need. In the event that the initial consultation is not a great fit, I will provide you with a professional referral to another practitioner.

I love working with adults seeking help to process a life event or past trauma. My clients seek help dealing with symptoms of anxiety, depression, burn out, irritability, physical issues like migraines or digestive problems, or just wondering why they respond the way they do. Most are coping with more feelings than usual, healing from a loss, and hope to feel like themselves again. Other clients may be aware of unhealed trauma from childhood that they now feel ready to process.

I work with all ages of clients: adults, adolescents and children older than 6. My adult clients generally have a trauma or grief background and are ready to stop letting their past define their current lives. I do work from a Story Informed Trauma Therapy approach with EMDR, and together, we look deeply into your stories and begin recognizing patterns that were once very helpful, but now no longer working. By understanding why you made past choices, my clients find that they can begin to transform unwanted thoughts and behaviors into a healthier way of life. With children, I focus on grief, anxiety and life issues related to kids.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
