As a mom you feel like you don’t know who you are anymore and you feel overwhelmed with anxiety, stress, and the constant to-do list. As a couple, you feel like nothing is working to get back to the connection you once had and you miss how it once was together. Either way, you may wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again.

I have been in practice for 20 years. I do not "fit" my clients into a particular therapy. I use what treatment helps each of my clients. The therapy sessions belong to my clients, not to me. My clients know themselves better than I or anyone else wil know them. My "job" is to help my clients learn to help themselves and apply what they have gained in therapy to the rest of their lives.

Our problems, concerns and struggles in life often cannot be reduced to a simple diagnosis. As human beings navigating a constantly evolving and sometimes difficult world, we are accumulations of our experiences, patterns, skills, and desires. We sometimes need to enhance our abilities to cope or gain insight through seeing a different perspective, but we all have the innate ability to grow and heal ourselves. As a therapist, my goal is to assist you in attaining your desired outcomes and reaching a point of contentment in your life.

Are you an outsider? Outsiders are those who may think, feel, look, and operate different from mainstream society. They often feel misunderstood and marginalized for their uniqueness. Outsiders feel a deep sense of connection to the natural world and understand that they are not separate but rather part of nature. Finding support and connection as an outsider can be challenging in a world that constantly demands conformity. Outsiders often identify as... LGBTQIA+, multicultural, women, child-free, artists, entrepreneurs, non-monogamous, high achievers, travelers, outdoorsy, introverts, mytstics, highly sensitive (HSP) etc.

All of us strive to become our best selves and to reach our highest potential. But as humans we're also vulnerable to fear, anger and self-doubt due to past traumas, and life events that can get in the way and knock us off course. I have faced some of these challenges myself. Sometimes we need help from an outside professional who is open, knowledgeable and compassionate. Often just the opportunity to be heard and understood can itself be healing. And the tools and insights learned from therapy can be life-changing. It's not easy but with motivation and a desire to grow, along with the right therapist, real progress can occur.

Perhaps you're in a relationship, family, or job where everything is always your fault. You're made to feel not good enough, that you have to try harder despite the other never taking accountability. You have difficulty expressing yourself in fear of the other person throwing it back in your face. Perhaps this mounting pressure from those relationships have made you give up, anxious, or just feel stuck. You don't know who you are anymore—you’ve been told how to think and feel. You may feel like you’re in a fog or just don’t know how to get back on track to the way things used to be.

I am a firm believer that virtual counseling sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions! I am excited to offer 30- and 45-minute virtual counseling sessions, which fit into everyone’s life. These sessions are convenient for you and fit into your busy schedule, but also allow us the opportunity to walk through the mountains and valleys of your life together. My desire is that during our time together, you are able to share your pain & struggles, without fear of judgment; and that you gain the courage to walk forward in life with the hope for a better tomorrow.

I believe that marriage is a lifelong commitment and I also believe that it is a difficult task to maintain a healthy relationship over the course of the marriage. I seek to work with both partners in the relationship to help each discover ways they can support one another. I believe when both partners feel safe and secure in the relationship that most problems that arise are able to be dealt with in a healthy manner.

Kudos to you for considering counseling and researching your options. Whether you are returning to counseling or just getting started, it can be a daunting task, especially since counselors are not "one size fits all." Taking time to find a counselor that you "click with" can take your session from "okay" to meaningful and fulfilling. Many of my clients report feeling "stuck" in their situations and "tired of pretending to be okay". Some experience dark thoughts that they don't understand or know how to talk about, while others are ready for a change but don't know where to start. I often say, "being human is a messy experience."

We spend a lot of our lives trying to be who others want us to be or who we imagine ourselves to be. But if we put aside those expectations, who are we? Who can we become? I consider it a great privilege to sit with clients and help them peel back the layers of themselves. This can be a painful process. It can also lead to a more enriching present and future.

I have extensive experience helping people with existential crises, finding direction in life, thematic/recurring problems in relationships, and difficulties related to religious/spiritual matters.
Understanding ourselves and our lives can be difficult. On the one hand, we may be prone to a sea of critical internal or external voices which make self-examination torturous. On the other, well-meaning people in our lives may be so eager to validate us that we are never quite able to face ourselves honestly. So, counseling is essentially about receiving the support to work creatively with all of this noise long enough to allow change to happen in and through you. The only way to do this to let someone get to know the real you. If we can do that, therapy can be a deeply authentic, radically human, even life-changing encounter!

My hope is that our work together can reignite those things that bring you the most joy and life. Often this process involves working through the impact of loss, pain, or trauma in a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. I work extensively with women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and much of my experience centers around religious trauma and spiritual wounding. My work is informed by humanistic and existential perspectives of psychotherapy, and I often incorporate the use of mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in a number of evidence-based clinical treatments including IFS, ACT, and EMDR.

Through the mindful lens, my clients and I collaborate through existential issues and fears, and develop a narrative that leads to healthier personal stories and a future that breaks through destructive language and thought patterns.
Thank you for considering me as your counselor. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Additionally, I am a burden, humorous, annoying, musical, incorrect, artistic, wise, slow, and energetic. I welcome you to come in and allow us to accept our true nature, together. I take what I do seriously, but I don’t take myself seriously. I specialize in serving individuals suffering from obsessions and compulsions, anxiety-related issues, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB), depression and emotional dysregulation, and existential dilemmas.

We all suffer from existential problems of living, and the first step is to talk about whatever it is that you think is going on.
I am a philosophical counselor who has been in private practice for over 23 years. I do not diagnose mental illnesses, nor do I prescribe medication. What I can do is help you with a wide range of issues that we all deal with: relationships, jobs, moral dilemmas, personal identity, love, difficult choices, transitions, addictions, self-care, spiritual/metaphysical questions, questions surrounding the exigencies of everyday living. A conversation is a good way to help you develop your own voice, your own inner resolve and sense of self. The 2,500 history of philosophy can provide invaluable insights as you journey through life.

If you’ve been longing to develop a deeper understanding of self and others in the context of a more longterm, intimate therapeutic relationship—one in which you are free and encouraged to be your authentic self, we may very well be a good fit. I’m certified in existential-humanistic therapy from the Existential-Humanistic Institute in California, and while I do incorporate other modalities of therapy, I take a predominantly philosophical approach, focusing on the human condition and how we might best navigate a variety of existential concerns that may hinder us from living fully—engaging in self-sabotage for example.

My counseling philosophy is person centered, holistic and existential. I believe that - Life is a process of moving towards wholeness.... Our brokenness is the basic human dlemma and each person's story is unique... It is because of this uniqueness that we all encounter different paths.... Empowering clients and helping them to move forward involves many paths also - from cogntive, behavioral, solution focused, humanistic, psychodynamic to marriage & family therapy ... and all are essential in meeting the client "where they are" and helping them to move forward.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
