I take an attachment-based, trauma-focused approach and aim to create a relationship and environment where you feel safe to explore the depths of your experience.
Clients usually come to me when they're processing through trauma, trying to address anxiety and depression symptoms, and wanting to live a more vibrant and aligned life. Most people I work with are usually at a point where they recognize that something feels stuck, and they want to make a change but need support building momentum.

To the outside world it may appear that you have it all together, yet no matter how hard you try you suffer from anxiety, self doubt, burn out, imposter syndrome and guilt when putting your own needs first. In order to resolve our inner emotional turmoil, there comes a time when we must choose between staying in a safe place we know or taking on the challenges of the unknown, and I believe every human already has within themself what they need to change. It is my role as a therapist to walk alongside you and help you illuminate that which has been blocking you from change and step into a life of healing and wholeness.

Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. As a solution-focused addictions counselor and coach, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary counseling approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Sometimes life confronts us with experiences that are disruptive personally or in our relationships resulting in feelings of depression, anxiety, or loss. While these feelings are normal, they can present challenges in terms of maintaining our sense of well-being and our ability to function well in our daily lives. In my view, the purpose of therapy is to help clients understand the source of disruptions, help them learn strategies for coping with and working-through difficult emotions, and become aware of triggering experiences. In this way, clients can learn how to repair disruptions and thereby restore their sense of well-being.

My practice is undergirded by the belief that we all have the innate ability to heal and it is my job is to create a holding environment where we can work together to facilitate that process. I use a collaborative, client-centered approach and draw on my clinical experience working in different settings to settle on interventions and strategies that are going to work best each individual. I operate under the assumption that you know yourself best, but I am happy to provide my clinical knowledge, experience, and strategies to act as rudders through our work together.

We all need help at times. Asking for it is not always easy - it is a vulnerable, brave act that requires courage and self-knowledge. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life changes (such as immigration, parenthood, loss of a loved one), career or university challenges, suicidal ideation, engaging in addictive, self-harming behaviors or feeling overwhelmed, directionless and lonely, my aim is to help you pay attention to your inner world, and to walk alongside you with kindness and respect to encourage clarity and healing so that you can live the life you desire.

From an early age, you begin to develop methods for coping with your world. Eventually, you may find these methods are no longer serving you and, in truth, are undermining the relationship you have with yourself and others. Perhaps old ways of coping are not working for current situations and are worsening your own suffering. Or maybe this is the first time you are going through a specific situation, and you are at a loss for how to get through it. Let’s find a way through it, together. I will help you evolve your coping methods to better serve you because they fit your current life and current situation.

I prefer to work with adults and older adolescents struggling with addictions, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. I have a vast amount of experience working in the field of trauma. Due to my experience working in community mental health, I also work well with those with intense mental health and substance abuse treatment needs. I have worked both inpatient and outpatient experiences, resulting in my flexibility to help stabilize in a crisis and to work with individuals at any level. A client who desires to accept partnership and engage in being open to change is the most ideal client.

Have you felt stuck for years, like your foot sinking deeper into a muddy river, making it increasingly difficult to find your way? Life can leave us feeling the same way. The more reactive we become, fighting stress and painful emotions, the harder it is to see clearly through the mud, and we lose sight of who we are.A lack of clarity about yourself can lead to suffering. For years, you may have measured your self-worth through the eyes of others, longing to live in your truth and not someone else's version of who they think you should be.Trauma, dysfunctional families, unmet needs, and chronic anxiety can all muddy the water.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
