I have specific training in Maudsley Family Based Therapy(FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Behavioral Activation as well as basic behavior modification.
I am a behaviorist at heart but that does not mean that my compassion, my irreverent style, or my humor are lost in my sessions. My goal is to join with my clients and pair an evidence based treatment with empathy and compassion for the most successful outcomes. I work with adolescents and adults specializing in feeding and food issues, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and parent coaching.

Identifying as non-binary helps me relate to other people searching for identity, in the LGBTQIA+ community as well as anyone who has felt the pressure to fit in with family, religious, or social norms.
You've felt pushed into boxes of what you're supposed to be your whole life, always falling short of someone's expectations, feeling guilty, angry, or a sense of shame. I work with individuals, both teens and adults, who feel depressed or anxious from feeling not enough. I also work with couples who have similar experiences and sometimes bring the traumas of past relationships into the new one. Situations where you know your partner isn't your ex, but it's hard to not react in the same ways and then regret it later.

I am a trauma informed and multiculturally aware clinician that has experience working with individuals that range in age from 5 years old - adulthood and families that are impacted by many mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, symptoms of PTSD and C-PTSD, mood disorders, relational issues, anger management dysfunctional family dynamics, etc.
Many types of experiences can impact your life causing stress, anxiety, depression, relational issues and other negative patterns. Investigating these present and past patterns can empower positive changes! I believe childhood and adulthood interweave into a persons current reality and the therapy space is a place to untangle the childhood events that continue to impact your current life. My belief that people are constantly changing to better suit their needs drives my enthusiasm to walk with client’s to become the version of themselves they desire to be, while also loving and respecting the current version of who they are.

Are you being treated for depression and/or anxiety by a family physician and yet don't feel any better? Maybe you feel worse? Chances are, you haven't been accurately diagnosed which means the medication is not right for you.
Therapy is completely normal and helpful when you find the right therapist for YOU! Finding such a therapist can feel overwhelming, scary and even hopeless. I assure you, those thoughts and feelings are normal. Depression and anxiety can be debilitating and scary. You feel alone and helpless; like no one understands you or what you're experiencing. Career, family, children, friendships, marriage and relationships suffer making you feel even more alone; and lost in the dark world that only you can see and feel. Please, give yourself the gift of therapy. I can help you work towards a healthier and happier you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
