I specialize in trauma, grief&loss, and relationship issues.
At its core, therapy is about supporting a life lived with awareness and choice, which is not only the best way to honor it, but also to meet the suffering that comes with it. Jung says: "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become". In a way both are true; the family we're born into, and life's events impact us deeply, and we can learn and grow through our experiences, the good and the bad, as opposed to letting them trap or control us. We can all lead lives consciously and choicefully.

I work primarily with women who struggle with anxiety/panic, trauma, burnout, grief/loss and relationship stressors. I specialize in working with college students and people in helping professions such as healthcare, social work/counseling, or teaching. Many of my clients would also describe themselves as stressed out, overextended, and have often been called "too sensitive" by people in their lives. In a time when 'busy-ness' and productivity have become the norm, I offer a safe space to slow down, breathe, and be heard. Please visit my website for more information: www.KatherineListerLMSW.com

I have had the privilege of working with a variety of clients of all ages and all walks of life. You're feeling stuck and alone after the loss. While everyone has gone on with "life as normal," you find yourself secretly grieving and isolating yourself. You're struggling with caring for your basic needs, and every day feels like an uphill battle. At times, the grief is so overwhelming you wonder if you'll ever be able to enjoy life again or have to live forever with a part of you that is missing. You're afraid you'll never experience joy, connection, and hope again. You want to feel vitality for life again, but the idea of moving on causes you to feel guilty.

I am a commitment to healing mind, body, and spirit (whatever spirit means to you). As such, therapy with me may look like practices to get in touch with your body's inherent wisdom. To do this we may look at how your nervous system responds to the world around you. As a human existing with privileged and marginalized identities I strive to center my practice in Anti-Racist, Feminist, and Queer philosophy. This means that topics of oppression are welcome in my therapy room and that I follow your lead on what is important to you. If you want to explore queerness/kink/nonmonogamy or a therapist who gets it, I'm here.

My clients struggle with various issues: anxiety, depression, anger, relationship challenges, divorce / break-ups, parenting concerns, medical challenges, etc. They come to me facing ongoing loneliness, sadness, and fear. My clients expect a compassionate space in which to explore their difficulties; unconditional positive regard from me to them. I honor clients where they are at and partner with them to facilitate the healing necessary to get them to where they want to be. My clients explore how their experiences in early childhood shaped how they show up in the world on a day to day basis, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
