Not accepting new clients
I want to work with anyone who has the goal of simply wanting to feel better than they do right now. Not feeling our emotional best is exhausting, and can lead to physical health decline, so it is worth the effort to try to feel better. The causes for not feeling our best can be for any of the reasons listed on the lower right ("issues") or, more often, unknown. I will listen to you and help you get to know your Self. Together, we will discover the tools you need to employ in various situations to help you understand your Self and your relationships, feel more confident and calm, less anxious, and live your life to its fullest.

I have experience working with life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma resolution, PTSD, emotional regulation, ADHD, sleep issues, family dynamics, LGBTQ concerns, spirituality, and more.
It’s through connection that we find meaning and discover we are not alone. I love working with clients who are curious and ready for positive change. I use Internal Family Systems, EMDR and other evidence-based tools to help my clients navigate their own process of self exploration, resolve trauma, and move in the direction of healing and growth. I believe therapy is an opportunity to explore what is unsaid or undiscovered in our experience. We can learn to hold space for the parts of ourselves most in need of our love and appreciation so we can truly live our most fulfilled life.

My personal theoretical foundation is not limited to one approach. I believe it is necessary for counselors to be adaptive. Every client is different and our responses and approaches should be equally diverse. One person may need a cognitive behavioral approach whereas another would be more responsive to brief counseling. This eclectic approach will be applied to all clients. Techniques will vary between clients to best meet the individual client's needs.

Sometimes we find we are walking in a fog, worry, feel alone, confused, and can't function. Thoughts consume our time and energy. We wonder, what is happening to me? Why am I so different? You must not be alone in times like this. Seek understanding for what you are experiencing. Through your past and present life experiences, perceptions are formed of yourself and of others and become your "learned history". My person-centered treatment focus assists you to re-narrate learned history and develop new awareness, which support growth with improved functioning in your life today with a manageable future.

I also have extensive experience in sitting with individuals who are seeking to understand and cope with life, who may also be struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or chronic pain.
I am currently only accepting new patients for testing, not therapy. An important aspect of my practice is creating a space that allows us to explore the obstacles people face and develop tools to remove them. My primary focus is neuropsychological assessment for individuals struggling with a spectrum of concerns, including ADHD, Autism, and dementia. I am certified by the ACBIS and Brain Injury Association of America as a Brain Injury Specialist and work closely with other providers to ensure that all aspects of a person's health are addressed. My goal is to help clients achieve improved functioning as quickly as possible. I believe the most powerful transformation comes from a combination of techniques to understand and reset non-adaptive patterns, including neurofeedback, other forms of biofeedback, such as heart rate variability, emotional freedom technique (EFT), and a personality assessment I use called the Enneagram, combined with behaviorally-based counseling, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The combination of these techniques provide the foundation for holistically examining issues that stand in the way of a fuller life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
