My clients come from a variety of backgrounds and ages seeking healing and understanding of their relationships and meaning in life. Some suffer from substance addiction, others from work stress, and many from wounded relationships in their family. Their goals are redemption of their suffering, building new ways of relating to others and clearing the pain of the past from clouding the joy of the present.

Meaningful and lasting change can result from powerful therapeutic conversations. I look forward to supporting you on your unique walk in this world. Trained in Narrative, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Positive Psychology, Solution Focused, Trauma Recovery, and Systems therapies, I work hard to meet your goals in an efficient and effective way. Exceptions to an identified problem often point the way to elegant solutions; individuals frequently discover they already know the best solutions to their problems-to-solve. With oodles of warm, active support, we identify those solutions and how to bring them into your life.

Whether you desire to engage childhood sexual abuse, relationship issues or traumatic brain injury, it'd be an honor to journey with you.
I invite you to a better second half of your life than the first half was. My specialties? Healing childhood abuse, couples, & brain injury. So often we settle for less—I invite you to a life full of more. Our lives are stories that intersect with those around us. Who we are, our relationship patterns, careers, & how we navigate life's events are rooted in our formational experiences. In a kind and conversational style, I invite you to step into the earth of those places. By walking barefoot through the dirt of your deepest heartache and how you were (and are) shaped by it, you will find that you return to your truest self.

It is tough times right now! People are struggling. I am here to give you the tools to feel better and to heal whatever you have gone through. I help people work through addiction recovery, anxiety, depression and difficult relationships. Having a strength-based approach that focuses on wellness and getting unstuck from repeating cycles is the approach I take. I work with anxiety, OCD, depression, addiction (alcohol, sexual, drug, spending, overeating, and work). I also work with chronic pain issues from a place of helping people express emotion. I do both in person and teleconferencing counseling at this time.

Psychology works because it is a way to help people understand their problems and correct or change so that they can live more healthy or satisfying lives. Many people come for therapy if they are experiencing problems with depression, anxiety or relationship issues. Some other common problems that I help treat are problems with work injuries, sleep, weight, stress, trauma, and sexual problems. These problems can be greatly helped through therapy. I employ an eclectic approach to therapy, meeting each individual’s needs rather than using one form of treatment.

Trouble with attention/concentration, migraines, TBI recovery, and trauma can often be treated with a combination of therapy and neurofeedback.
I help individuals, couples, and families discover a new and more complete understanding of themselves, their thoughts, feelings, and relationships. I work from an existential-humanistic orientation, which is just a fancy way of saying that I believe every person is unique, valuable, and has purpose. For many people, discovering that purpose is the difference between a satisfying life and an empty one. For others, fulfilling their purpose gets messy and hard. In both cases (and many others) it can be helpful to talk it all through with a trusted therapist.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
