**Availability for Telehealth Counseling** I work with dynamic women and men who want to do big things with their lives yet experience mood and health challenges that keep them from fully realizing their potential. I help them get centered, balanced, and healthy so they're happier, more vital ... and more fulfilled. I work with the "highly sensitive person" who struggles with self-acceptance, guilt, and shame. Additionally, I work with people facing health challenges, helping them regain the capabilities they've lost and vigor they once enjoyed.

Clients come to me with stress, sadness, anxiety, guilt, grief, shame, confusion, addictions, relationship issues and trauma. Clients often need help with processing overwhelming emotional experiences and getting back to a place where they can 'self-regulate' their own nervous systems during tough times. My work focuses on a somatic/body-centered, trauma informed, mindfulness-based approach. Clients who work with me find that the therapeutic relationship serves as a resource for getting where they want to be in their lives. With therapeutic support, difficult experiences help guide us to our innate wisdom, strength and resilience.

I believe in change; that when a person is dissatisfied, they can make little shifts that can create big impacts. I believe in the power of the individual. My typical clientele are adults struggling with anxiety, trauma symptoms, or depression.

My clients are adults experiencing challenges with anxiety, mood disorders, life transitions, trauma, grief and loss. I believe deep listening can be an antidote to our increasingly challenging world. My therapy style is collaborative and strengths-based, helping people tap into their inner wisdom and resources. I am fascinated by people - their stories, challenges, interests, hopes, loves, struggles, and goals. I particularly enjoy helping people discover and change thinking and behavior patterns that are no longer useful, uncover neglected parts of themselves, and grow into the successful people they mean to be.

I work with clients in a relaxed, informal, and professional way to promote emotional safety and comfort within the relationship so that they can process openly and authentically about meaningful and often sensitive topics. While experiencing this connection, people are able to gain presence, reflect on experiences and plan for personal maintenance, change and growth. Many clients enjoy both spending time in the office, taking walks, spending time in nature, and/or meeting virtually for telehealth sessions. I like to utilize physical activity, mindfulness, and ecotherapy for engagement and emphasizing overall health and wellness.

My work is trauma informed and incorporates a holistic approach, one in which we seek to not only honor your individual needs and strengths but find acceptance and compassion for the struggling and unlikable parts. I utilize strength-based and trauma informed methods as well as therapeutic yoga and mindfulness strategies. Recently, I have begun facilitating EMDR and IFS ("IFS Informed" via the IFS Institute). Counseling is part of your healing process, but it's not all of it. I will help you identify what aspects of your wellness need nurturing and how you can find your balance.

I encourage my clients to identify and express their feelings and to more fully understand their personal frames of reference. I often use a practical approach, focusing on the development of short and long-term goals, looking at what has and hasn't worked in the past and examining the potential consequences of various courses of action and points of view. I also guide consideration of how the past continues to affect the present. I use a wide range of therapeutic activities to facilitate the therapeutic relationship and process. My goal is to help you reach yours. I hope you'll give me that opportunity.

Sometimes we feel 'stuck.' Sometimes we experience negative emotions which we feel conflict with our values, morals, ideals. Sometimes we feel an emptiness. Like our inner flame...the one which burns inside, pushing us to set & pursue goals, dream, live life with a sense of anticipation...has dimmed, until just an ember. Sometimes our negative life experiences get us caught up in the lies of guilt and shame. Paralyzing us. Keeping us from moving forward. Perhaps it's more than 'just' feelings and emotions. Maybe symptoms of mental illness make life hard. And navigating through life, each day, each moment, feels like tedious work.

I believe therapy is a way to enrich life and develop connection in a space with compassion and free of judgment. My methods involve treating the whole person, mind, body & spirit. I believe it is important to identify and process emotion, non-verbal communication, somatic expressions and subconscious processes. Memories play a part in how our brains process and store meaning to life. Misinterpreted meaning sometimes becomes internalized and leaves us with unwanted thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. As we work together we process those memories leaving undesired mind/body connections behind.

Thanks for showing up here. By doing the work to even navigate to this page, you are taking a huge step for yourself. We all have thoughts, feelings, & behaviors that keep us stuck in patterns that don’t always serve us or our loved ones well. The great news is that these patterns are learned from a variety of experiences, meaning they can also be un-learned with concentrated effort and a willingness to change. Therapy can be a liberating space where those patterns are examined and new perspectives that better serve us are developed over time. This work requires immense vulnerability, but this is often not a starting point.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
