Not accepting new clients
My practice is not accepting new clients at this time. I commend you for being here. It takes courage and strength to ask for help. I believe as human beings we are resilient and often intuitively know what we need to do to heal. Unfortunately sometimes that healing can be thwarted by seemingly insurmountable barriers such as depression, anxiety, history of trauma, or substance abuse. Let's work together to create more effective coping skills so you may actually live, rather than just survive, your life. I find that the best results in treatment stem from focusing on people's strengths rather than their weaknesses.

I specialize in trauma resolution therapy: my practice focuses on resolving painful issues from the past that keep you stuck in repetitive cycles of negative behaviors. Do you ever ask your self "Why can't I just stop doing that?" or "Why do I keep attracting the same negative people in my life, over and over again?" I provide an atmosphere of safety and attuned communication where we are able to address both conscious and unconscious issues in order to uncouple traumatic events that have overwhelmed the mind and body, allowing healing to occur.

Do you feel like you don’t know who are? Do you feel misunderstood? Have you struggled with confidence, fear, and hopelessness? Having these thoughts and emotions can be incredibly painful. Many feel ashamed for having them and try to manage their mental health on their own. This tends to perpetuate greater feelings of isolation and relational pain.

Whether you are struggling with mental health issues, your identity, or just need someone to talk to, I believe help should be non-judgmental and accessible to everyone. I especially enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, high school and college students, people of all spiritual or religious beliefs (including people without religious beliefs), and self-identified “people-pleasers.”

Are you feeling alone, anxious or depressed? Unsatisfied with your career, have chronic pain or illness? Relationship stress, extended family issues? My clients tell me I'm warm, easy to talk to, and down to earth. I use a variety of treatment approaches: psychodynamic and relational, combined with CBT, EFT, and EMDR. EMDR can help almost any problem resolve more quickly because it allows the brain to make changes on a deeper level than just talking. We still talk plenty though, before, during and after EMDR. My clients find telehealth to be helpful and convenient. I see regular clients occasionally at my home office.

Over the years, I have worked with individuals who experience challenges with symptoms related to anxiety, who have been experienced challenges in relationships, and those who are wanting to increase stress management skills. Some folks seeking support during times of transition and some folks are interested in focusing on a specific area of their relationship with their partner or their coworkers. Together, we can determine which goals to focus on and how to best achieve the desired outcomes.

Whether you have a current personal or relationship crisis, or an ongoing problem, I can help you increase your peace, satisfaction, effectiveness, and understanding of yourself and others. Want joy and satisfaction in your life, and yet circumstances, known or unknown, seem to keep getting in the way? I offer tools for changing that. We will work with both the conscious brain, and with the instinctive brain, which has a mind and a life of its own. Many who've had much therapy, made good changes but not fundamental shifts, have happily transformed their lives working this way with me.

I have great respect for individuals willing to engage in the therapy. It is not an easy process, but it does provide an opportunity for real change and healing. I have spent much of my career working with individuals struggling with issues of addiction, depression and anxiety, and other severe and persistent mental illness and personality disorders. Much time has also been spent working with those recovering from a history of trauma or history of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse.

Counseling is such meaningful and rewarding work and I am so grateful that I get to do it. My goal is to always be growing as a person right alongside you and to always approach my work with a sense of openness and curiosity rather than judgment. After all, we’re just two humans talking about being human. My hope is that you can learn to further embrace your humanness and leave behind your shame in the process. While talk therapy can be extremely valuable, I recognize that there are some problems that conventional talk therapy can’t quite reach, which is why I typically use a more experiential, trauma-focused approach to counseling.

I encourage my clients to identify and express their feelings and to more fully understand their personal frames of reference. I often use a practical approach, focusing on the development of short and long-term goals, looking at what has and hasn't worked in the past and examining the potential consequences of various courses of action and points of view. I also guide consideration of how the past continues to affect the present. I use a wide range of therapeutic activities to facilitate the therapeutic relationship and process. My goal is to help you reach yours. I hope you'll give me that opportunity.

Sometimes in life, we just feel overwhelmed. Anxious, depressed, scared. Old behavior patterns can often cause us to feel "stuck". Having a trained, experienced, and supportive professional to guide you through these frustrating, and often painful experiences, can be the key to making the change you want in your life.

On the outside people see you as "put together" because you're gritty and tough even when you don't feel it. Yet inside its impossible to narrow down your symptoms to one category because you feel ALL of the things, maybe even all at the same time. Confusion, stress, pain, heartbreak, fear, loneliness, sadness and anger are your normal. Because when you've experienced hard, difficult things in your life, those feelings ARE normal. You're tired of "faking" being ok as life has become overwhelming. When was the last time you felt confident and present, able to be ENOUGH for yourself and others? Maybe its time to feel that again.

An “ideal client” does not exist. Our strengths & weaknesses ebb & flow & simply outline human existence. This being said, persistence & determination—-on the part of the client—— and trusting that the psychologist has their best interest at heart—- encourage sought-after changes to occur.

My practice and life philosophy is based on the conviction that all people have the potential to achieve their maximum potential, overcoming the impact of the trauma of their past. Most clients will need to complete an initial clinical assessment which includes your social environment, spiritual beliefs, physical health, economic stress, and trauma history unless a recent clinical assessment from a prior provider is available. This assessment may take one to three sessions. Please be aware that most insurers require that a diagnosis is made although often many diagnoses overlap.

Founded on a person-centered approach, I believe that the professional relationship is a large part of the therapeutic work. Although I integrate several evidence-based modalities including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, somatic, psycho-dynamic, & motivational interviewing interventions, I welcome any presentation for both adults as well as youth.

TRICARE Therapists

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. The EAP for the U.S. Armed Forces is Military OneSource. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
