With over 15 years of experience as a practicing therapist, I understand that therapy is not the easiest journey to take when you have to address challenging life circumstances. The easier path to take is to do nothing and remain unhappy and dissatisfied. Meaningful change in life will not happen unless you make the commitment to change. I provide a safe, comfortable, supportive, and non-judgmental space for you to do the work you need to do so you are better able to fulfill your dreams. You only have to be willing to make a difference in your life.

The clients I feel the most comfortable working with are those struggling with anxiety and depression.
Hi there, my name is Robert (Bob)Willis. I am a licensed LPC. My approach to therapy is client centered with an emphasis on Biblical teaching. It is my belief that everything a therapist needs to counsel as well as the needs of the client is found in Scripture both Old and New Testaments. After 40+ years in Pastoral Ministry I am convinced the Bible has the answers to all of man's delimas.

Balance, self-awareness, and acceptance are important when working toward positive change. I offer a warm and welcoming space. A place where you are safe to share and explore. I like to offer alternative perspectives, empowering discussion, ways to integrate cognitive and practical shifts, along with a moderate dose of humor.

I have noted particular success with couples and those with PTSD or anxiety disorders.
Deciding to see a Doctoral level therapist is a hard decision to make and it can seem scary. Therefore, it's important for you to know that I am non-judgmental, provide a safe and confidential atmosphere, and am usually pretty good at helping people feel comfortable right away. I am honest and always provide professional and practical opinions in a caring and empathic manner within the scope of my practice. I work with adults of all ages, older adolescents, couples, and families, regardless of background. I also perform all sorts of psychological assessments if one is needed (i.e. diagnostic, court ordered, child custody, etc.).

I am an experienced clinical social worker specializing in women's health, maternal health, postpartum anxiety and depression, professional stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, self-image, and eating disorders.
I recognize that navigating stressors in our current times is more challenging than ever before. Increasing professional, work, family, and other external pressures make it more and more difficult to navigate daily routines and responsibilities. Recognizing past stressors and issues and how they are impacting/limiting us can be an important aspect of therapy that I strive to help people with. Learning tools and skills to help navigate stressors is also essential in therapy to help people feel their happiest and healthiest. Feeling less stressed and less overwhelmed; feeling better about oneself; and feeling happier and less anxious!

My job is about hope. Many of my former clients tell me that they were surprised and relieved to feel so much better after therapy. They were unsure if they would ever find relief from the challenges they had. That is why I do what I do. It is a joy to share in that journey of healing. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help my clients process and move forward from their traumatic experiences. I love using play and expressive arts to engage children and adolescents. I also have a special place in my heart for those who struggle with eating disorders and self harm.

I have had training in a variety of modalities, covering a range of symptoms from anxiety, depression, mania, and psychosis, but the area I continue to gravitate towards is working with trauma.
I am L. Elizabeth Shelton, GA LPC 008242, and have been fully licensed since 2012, originally in Virginia and since 2015 in Georgia. My theoretical orientation to therapy is CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) as I believe it is critical to understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact and drive most of the problems people struggle to overcome.

A successful life is one full of experiences, exploration, learning and growth. The moments, milestones, and memories we have in life are filled with joy and sorrow, success and failure, courage and fear. We are not meant to traverse this path without guidance, support and love. Each of us is here to fulfill a potential within that is ours to discover, to master and to fully realize. We want to be heard, to be seen, to be known. To live life fully is to embrace it with a perspective of an open heart and an open mind, knowing that in doing this, we are becoming our best selves.

"My child doesn't know how to regulate their emotions." I hear this a lot. And it's true. No one is born knowing how to regulate their emotions, and most of us who are adults now were never actually taught, we just did our best to figure it out, and now we're trying to pass on the skill to small, emotionally volatile people with half-baked nervous systems. Yeah. If it feels hard, it's because it IS. And if you have a child with some extra emotional sensitivity or sensory processing differences or neurodivergence or a trauma history or big life changes, it's even harder. And now YOUR nervous system is frayed.

I help clients resolve trauma and PTSD, anxiety, life transitions, and stress through bringing the body and mind together in the therapy room with EMDR processing, parts work, somatic practices, and talk therapy to help you heal your inner child and feel whole again.
Do you feel like something is wrong but you can't quite figure out what it is? Like everyone else seems to have it together but you don't know how they do it? Does your to-do list never seem to end, and suddenly there's no time left for the things that bring you joy, let alone self-care? Maybe you're constantly fighting a feeling that you're not enough. Or certain patterns from the past keep inexplicably repeating themselves in the present. Maybe your inner child is yelling for help but you're not sure how to help them. These things can leave you feeling even more overwhelmed, frazzled, stressed, burned out, or uncertain.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
