I can also help you address stress, depression, anxiety, anger, grief, self-esteem issues, existential questions, trauma, problems in your relationships, or coping skills to meet the many difficulties that come our way in life.
Life brings many issues that we often want help working through. Therapy is a great way to untangle these life events. I offer a warm, safe environment where we address sensitive topics at a pace comfortable for you. In session, we will work collaboratively and creatively to address patterns and issues that you want to change or leave behind. I recognize seeking help for ourselves or our families can be a challenging task. With support and guidance, we can find environments and techniques to help you be safe sharing your thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

Seeking therapy can feel a little daunting, or maybe even embarrassing, but you're making the right choice. Have you been struggling with grief or loss? Do you find it hard to stay happy even though you have achieved a lot? Have you discovered an unresolved trauma that needs healing? Are you experiencing anxiety in unmanageable ways? Or do you just want help letting go of things that are keeping you "stuck?" I think I can help with that.

I have treated various conditions such as grief, trauma, PTSD, sexual abuse, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders and anxiety.
Often times life can seem overwhelming, it can be hard to know the right decision when navigating through daily tasks. Dealing with current stressors, balancing work, maintaining relationships all while still finding time for ourselves. However, slowing things down and taking time for ourselves is the first step to healing. Unhealed wounds can continue to impact us and show up in unhealthy ways, ultimately holding us back from reaching our goals. Finding a safe place to work through these obstacles can be a journey and enlightening experience.

I am a multicultural sensitive counselor, specializing in couples therapy, grief counseling, and women’s trauma.
Many people struggle with living a peaceful, satisfied, fulfilled life; existing as oppose to living. Living consist of being one’s “best self,” with best being defined by the individual. Although, biological, traumatic, and negative experiences may encourage self-defeating behaviors and thoughts, such experiences are not who a person is. Counseling presents a challenging journey through such experiences to discovering and understanding one’s self to increase one’s quality of life.

And over the last several years I have also been working with clients before and after undergoing bariatric surgery for weight loss.
I have been practicing as a marriage and family therapist for over 35 years. I work with couples to restore their relationships, families with adolescent issues, divorce, blended families and infertility issues; Also individuals who want to heal family of origin and abuse issues, depression, and confusion regarding life's direction and circumstances. I respect each individual's journey, am honored to be trusted with the pain and complexity of life and hope to support them along the way. I attempt to be a guiding counselor while sometimes playing the role of "rent-a-grandmother" to provide guidance and support.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
