Maybe asking for help isn’t natural for you, you’d rather figure it out on your own. Or you’ve felt misunderstood and letting someone in is a big risk. You've been told you are "too" sensitive and it feels like you experience life differently from everyone around you. Do you bounce between numb and overwhelmed? You're the type to work hard, hold yourself to a high standard, and yet don’t feel confident that you’re doing enough. Perhaps you identify as neurodivergent (ADHD, gifted, Highly Sensitive Person, twice exceptional) or suspect that you may be?

I have expertise and passion for working with those who have a history of trauma of all kinds, with particular expertise in the intersection between ADHD treatment and trauma treatment.
My expertise lies in providing evidenced-based therapy to individuals and families experiencing challenges in relationships. Clients come to me to explore how to be a better parent to their children or how understand themselves and grow after trauma and neglect. Often they discover there is a deep relationship between the two.

Waitlist for new clients
I have practiced psychotherapy for the past ten years with a focus on children and families, perinatal mental health, anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
Deciding to speak to a therapist is a step in the direction of health - mental, emotional, and sometimes physical. My clients usually come to me after they have tried all they can think of - I feel honored to be their next step and honor the steps they've already taken. Whether a client's concerns pertain to parenting or becoming a parent, perinatal mental health, life transitions, ADHD, or general mental health, I enjoy working together with my clients to determine the best next steps for them.

I help young people understand their strengths as well as their challenges, discover healthy ways to express and manage fears and insecurities, and accept support from those who care about them. Many lack important skills to successfully manage demands of school, relationships, and stressful life events, leaving them "stuck" in patterns of reactivity that can be concerning and confusing to others. Through our work and collaboration with their families and other care providers, my patients often report improved self-awareness, self-esteem, school performance, environmental support, and interactions with peers and family members.

You’ve arrived at a crossroads in life. As you look out at the path in front of you, you see a multitude of possibilities and outcomes. You know there must be some way forward that seamlessly blends the threads of culture, emotion, and self-discovery that are important to you. But the fact is, you’re too scared to move in any direction – the self-doubt, confusion, and fear of making the wrong choice paralyze you. If only you had the confidence to embark on this journey you know you need and deserve. But it feels impossible. So instead, you wait, hoping that the choice will become clearer or taken out of your hands entirely.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
