Not accepting new clients
I endeavor to help clients better to understand the nature and nuances of their particular difficulties so that they can live a rich, meaningful life. I have experience helping people with a wide array of psychological difficulties, including OCD, anxiety, depression, anger, relational difficulties, and major life transitions. Before beginning my clinical psychology training I worked in business at multiple private-sector organizations - I leverage this distinctive combination of experience and expertise when working with all clients, and especially those who find their work lives impacted by their struggles.

In life, there are times when we need to face challenging situations and make changes, but we may need help to think things through. I work from the perspective that all of us can bring certain strengths to bear and that we can benefit from self-understanding in order to use our strengths to the best of our abilities. Through a collaborative framework, I help people cope with the pressures of everyday life, transitions that are challenging and/or stressful as well as longstanding concerns such as learning difficulties, anxieties, mood problems, interpersonal concerns, and life transitions.

My specialty is helping individuals to work to remove challenges to achieving satisfaction in their lives. Many times we find ourselves stuck in patterns that are self-defeating but seem difficult to change. These may cause us problems in school and work, as well as in our peer and family relationships, and interfere with the enjoyment of pleasurable activities. These patterns may be due to our early experiences within our families, or as a result of challenges faced in adolescence and adulthood. No matter your age or phase of life, therapy can help.

Thriving takes commitment as it requires a mindset and body shift that can feel daunting at times. The weight of this world is already so disorienting and when we add our experiences with trauma, we can easily fall and live in a cycle of self-betrayal and neglect. Sometimes what we are holding onto needs to be fully disintegrated before we can move to a growth cycle. Much of my work is centered on trauma and stress recovery, shared empowerment, movement, and decolonizing practices. As a trauma healing practitioner, I am invested in facilitating your access to your whole self moving you beyond the traditional therapeutic activities.

I passionately believe that long lasting change does not come from a place of self-loathing, fear, or pressure from others, but rather, compassion and acceptance towards ourselves. So many variables can impact the way we view ourselves: trauma, our families & relationships, identities that have been marginalized, sexuality, cultural and societal norms, systemic oppression, neurodivergence, social media, diet-culture, and the list goes on. The culmination of these experiences can weigh us down, preventing us from living a life authentic to our values and aspirations.

I enjoy working with individuals who seek to live happier, healthier lives and recognize that change can only happen by trying something new. Each of us has the power to create better lives for ourselves simply by changing the way we relate to ourselves. Many people never learned as children how to cope with stress and negative emotion. But this is a skill that can be learned in adulthood and that can pave the way for greater happiness throughout our lives. The ultimate goal is to prioritize your well-being and care for yourself by noticing and responding to your thoughts and feelings with compassion and validation.

TELETHERAPY SESSIONS AVAILABLE. I enjoy working with all types of people, but I find the clients I am most successful with are those who are willing to look beneath the surface of the issue that brought them to me. So often the "problems" we experience are connected to so many different situations or experiences in our lives, that it can be difficult to determine how best to handle them. I truly enjoy assisting others in this process and find that most people have exactly the solutions and resources they need to successfully manage their lives, but that they sometimes need help finding them.

When I see a new patient for the first time, I try to assess what he or she wants from life or from what each person is struggling. I do this with individuals or parents so together so we can determine what is best for him or her or their child at the current time. Sometimes people want to work on one problem and then develop a curiosity about how their minds work. Often in those situations, I work more intensely and more frequency to search for what is meaning to people and how they wants to navigate in the world in a freer way.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
