For the last twenty years, I have worked in the field of mental health, special education, and substance abuse treatment. I have a passion for helping people navigate life's challenges. My approach is down to earth and inviting, and although I am a general practitioner, I have an affinity for working with adolescents, couples, and families.

I am passionate about helping clients develop and improve positive relationships with themselves and the important people in their lives. Attachment disruptions and childhood trauma can impact people throughout their lives and processing historical sources of symptoms or behaviors while learning and developing positive ways to cope can assist people with working through their trauma and symptoms in order to develop a positive sense of self and live the life they desire.

I am an Attachment based therapist well versed with severe levels of trauma, anxiety and depression due to family systems, addiction, adoption or other struggles. I have over 20 years experience as a dancer and dance studio owner from which I draw upon for a creative, integrative approach in therapy and fresh approach to understanding my clients. I am also fortunate enough to work collaborately with another therapist and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to provide wraparound services for clients all in our beautiful office space. I believe in exploring all avenues and taking innovative approaches in therapy to aid the client in healing and personal growth.

I’ll be honest: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with you, and I don’t think individual therapy is the answer. Naturally we are all very unique creatures with some goals and experiences that overlap with those around us. My goal is to support clients to navigate through their challenges and hardships. In time, supporting them to make the most of their story and being able to reach their ideal version of self.

While I am competent in using ACT, DBT, CBT, Narrative Therapy, Systems Therapy, Solution Focused Brief therapy, Somatic and Polyvagal Therapy, working with me is more than a manual. I know each client has a unique modality or evidence based practice that will be the best fit.

In an ever-changing world, with so many hardships and challenges, I have dedicated my life to helping people make sense out of their struggles and find more peace. I believe in people, and believe that in a safe and supportive environment, with a skillful and responsible guide, people are capable of incredible accomplishments, leading to changes that enable more peace and joyful living. I believe that people develop maladaptive patterns of living and relating and that sometimes simple changes in habits, thinking, growing and understanding, can lead to happier, healthier lives and relationships. Monica received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix and her Master's Degree in Social Work at Rutgers University. Monica enjoys working with all populations. She works with kids, teens, and adults. She believes that everyone has different needs and therefore requires a custom approach to therapy.

I believe that humans are inherently tasked with searching for meaning in their life, finding purpose, and figuring out what makes life worth living. There is anxiety when you cannot find meaning or purpose, especially when it feels like the cards are stacked against you. When we are able to make meaning, identify what is important to us, and understand our beliefs, we can use these aspects to guide our behavior toward becoming the person we want to be.

I specialize in trauma and post-traumatic stress. In my practice, I create a safe environment to explore past wounds, process current obstacles and find meaning and purpose for the future. I believe, based on a comprehensive review of applicable research and witnessing transformation in my clients, trauma can be healed. Acquiring the tools necessary to respond to stressful situations, strengthening the core of who we are and what we hope to become, creates our own resiliency; our tenacity for living. Resiliency can be learned. We have the capacity to heal from trauma. I am currently running a waitlist for new clients.

Through a relationship built on trust, respect, and genuine positive regard we can look at life's situations in this present moment with understanding of what is important to you in order to gain new perspectives and counteract faulty logic. Together the counseling process becomes successful. Walking through life can be especially difficult for those who have been mistreated within relationships, those who are struggling to find hope after a loss, or those going through a rough time. I have experience working with adults and children with various diagnoses including depression, anxiety, anger issues, Bipolar Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, ADHD, and adjustment/life transition concerns. I was trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD in 2015 and have had training in CBT. I am EMDR trained as of August 2023 as well. I love working with active-duty military members, veterans, and their families.
