If you're feeling at the end of your rope in your relationship with your partner, child, work, or some aspect of yourself, you may be ready to make a change. While feeling gripped by pain, fear, despair, uncertainty, doubt, and even shame feels like anything but a blessing, 5 years from now, you may look back and identify this moment as the one that positively altered the course of your life forever.

You may want to understand and befriend your emotions instead of distracting or reacting from them. You may have tried traditional talk therapy, but it didn’t work. You may be highly sensitive and care deeply about the world, making you feel overwhelmed, stressed, or burnt out. You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, or substance abuse. You might identify as a member of the LGBTQ Neurodiverse community and want support in navigating societal challenges while still being authentically yourself. You may feel lost or confused about your purpose.

Psychotherapy is a process that allows us to explore how our thoughts, feelings and actions interact and influence one another. Through thoughtful questioning, healthy confrontation, and a lot of laughter (yes, a sense of humor is vital in this process), I will do my best to help you achieve your therapeutic goals. To me, therapy is an evolving, nurturing, and dynamic conversation that offers support and can lead to change and self-improvement. The process may be difficult at times, but ultimately, people walk away with an awareness of options for behaving, feeling, relating, or understanding differently.

Are you experiencing anxiety or depression that keeps you from living fully? Are you feeling alone and grieving, having recently lost a loved one, a pet, a job, or a relationship? Perhaps you are going through a confusing life transition and are looking for a new sense of purpose and direction. It is challenging to look within yourself when things feel chaotic and painful, however looking within and developing a more compassionate relationship with all parts of yourself is the foundation for healing and possibility. There are times in everyone’s life when we need some extra support, and you don't need to walk this road alone.

Times are tough right now, and you might be feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, sadness, and loneliness. Some days it's hard to even get started at all. Or maybe you feel disconnected from your partner, like they don't understand you or care, and you wonder if you'll ever feel love again. You might be trying hard to forgive your partner for having an affair, but you just can't, and you're afraid you won't ever get past it. You do not have to struggle alone, and together we can work toward getting you or your relationship to a better place.

My specialities/areas of focus are: substance abuse, addiction and trauma.
My Approach: Direct and Compassionate - I believe these are the two greatest traits I can bring into my work with others. While working with clients I strive to provide honest feedback that will help guide them forward towards recovery while offering compassion along the journey. I believe that the best route to change is a direct one that does not beat around the bush. The road to recovery of any form can be very difficult as life may be in a state of turmoil. I have found that offering a compassionate approach that fits an individual's needs is the best route to take.

The ebb and flow of every day life can be overwhelming and frustrating. With new tools and a positive perspective, that lens can demonstrate inspiration and balance. Navigating through emotional struggles and stress can feel lonely and frightening, with support you can find relief and peace of mind. There is no time like the present to begin a new chapter toward a happier, healthier you and I would be honored to assist you.

I have received advanced specialized training in therapies subsequent to my academic training including, but not limited to, Sexual Addiction and EMDR.
I am, first and foremost, a highly trained Christian Therapist. For over thirty years I have worked with couples, individuals, and families helping put an anchor back into their lives. As a Marriage and Family Therapist who is licensed in both Colorado and California, I have two Masters degrees: a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Masters of Divinity (a three-year ministerial academic training) both earned from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California that has been coined “The Princeton of the West”. I use a "systems" approach to marriage and family therapy which means I view each person as part of a whole.

Are you concerned with aspects of your behavior and want to understand their root causes? Are you and your partner needing guidance to work through challenges in your relationship and improve the quality and depth of your intimacy? Are you wanting to feel more safe and at home in your own skin? I view counseling as a sacred container which supports your innate healing capacity to emerge. Just as a doctor does not “heal” a broken bone, therapy does not heal the wounds of the heart and soul. Instead, we create a safe space together in which your powerful inner healing capacity is supported to emerge.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
