My primary specialty is eating disorders.
I am interested in working with a person who is committed to understanding and undertaking the therapeutic process. This looks like a willingness to be vulnerable and honest, to dig deep into the state of their mind and body and address the traumas that they may be holding, and ultimately to develop a relationship with me that can facilitate their healing. I specialize in eating disorders, depression, anxiety, family and relational conflicts, and women's issues.

I love working with teenagers, children and adults, and using art and talk therapy to illuminate what needs attention and attunement within the system or the individual. Art is a vehicle that invites creative expression which can free up trapped energy and allow for movement and clarity. While implementing a variety of adaptable art interventions, I also invite my clients to lead the session and will gently guide when needed. While my focus is geared towards teenagers, I am also seeing clients with eating disorders, young adults working through relationship difficulties and family systems that need some extra attention.

" My experience includes eating disorders, mood disorders, relationship issues, and navigating transition.
We all contain the inner wisdom to heal ourselves and move towards being an authentic, positive and loving person. The courage to be vulnerable -by moving toward our pain and confusion as well as our joy- utterly transforms and frees us. I am honored to enter into the sacred space of therapy together with my clients. I use an integrative, trauma informed, and strength based approach combining empathy, mindfulness, and radical acceptance as well as a plethora of therapeutic tools (ie--imagery, parts work, role play, body/somatic awareness). I have a passionate social justice orientation and am experienced in a wide breadth of issues.

To lose faith in yourself, the future, the healing force of the human spirit is a terrible tragedy. In my work with adolescents and adults, our task is to re-ignite that vital life force. Through reexamining the past we remove old blocks, make sense of today's issues and work through self-destructive patterns. My training in Humanistic Psychotherapy and Jungian studies,EMDR, Family Systems Theory and Focusing enable me to draw from a wide range of interventions and interpretations. I also have worked extensively in the realm of addictions and eating disorders using a 12 step model.

Cultivating joy and healthy habits requires creating a consistent space to practice and learn new ways of being. Did you know your mind is more wired to produce anxiety and depression than joy? There is nothing wrong with you! You just didn't learn the skills that generate more joy, calm and acceptance; this is what leads to long-term fulfillment and happiness. Burnout, abandoning your dreams, anxiety, overwhelm, feeling lost, an extra glass of wine-all can lead to a vicious cycle of not feeling good. I can help you break that cycle. Integrating the body, breath practices, and neuroscience into therapy helps bring lasting changes.

My passion is to work with women who are stepping into the truth of who they are. I work with people who can no longer avoid the calling to go within, to find the answers to the hard questions, What am I hungry for? What is life asking of me? What am I here to do? Usually this begins with a fair amount of suffering and struggle, whether it's an encounter with an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, self-harm, or simply life confusion.

I am honored to work with humans feeling heartache inside the constraints of our modern world. Through conditioning + relational wounding, we temporarily lose touch with the deep, innate wisdom of our souls + bodies. Life can feel chaotic and daunting - we question ourselves and even feel dead inside. If you long to experience belonging as your true self, I’m here to shepherd you back to safety in relationship with yourself, your body and others. I was brought to this sacred work through my personal experience of rising above trauma. I’m devoted to guiding others out of the depths of struggle and into fulfillment and connection.

I believe that we all have an innate capacity to heal and simply need the right support and environment to begin that process. I’m here to hold a safe and compassionate container within which you can explore your psycho-somatic-emotional world, grow in self-compassion, and reconnect with the parts of you that are needing the most care. I believe the body holds answers to our deepest questions. My work is rooted in Somatic Experiencing and I support clients in nervous system regulation in order to grow their capacity to hold life’s complexities. Honoring and supporting clients’ choice and agency is foundational to my practice.

I work best with clients who are not only wanting to resolve their issues, but who also have some abiding interest in inner exploration and self-discovery. In my experience, if we only approach therapy with the mindset of needing to fix, therapy can become heavy and mechanical. Even if we are working with difficult subjects, therapy is meant to engage a part of us that loves to know the truth about ourselves. When this happens, it is as though a flame lights up in us, which fuels our passion for self-inquiry. Then, therapy becomes more like an adventure, which can be very enjoyable, meaningful, and expansive.

We are always, already in relationship. Whether it is a relationship to another person, place, or oneself, we are in some way connected to and affected by our surroundings. It's in relationship that our deepest hurt can take place, and it's also in relationship that our most profound and liberating healing can occur. Let's utilize relationship- yours and mine, other relationships in your life (partner or friends), and the greater context of society, and nature to illuminate your unconscious patterning, and support you in finding new, intentional ways of being that bring you greater joy, clarity, and wellbeing.

I specialize in working with driven individuals, couples, and families. Whether athlete, artist, or business person, I help clients reclaim parts of themselves that may have been lost or forgotten in their pursuit of excellence. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, body image issues, and substance misuse are common in clients I work with. My therapeutic approach has been particularly helpful with people nearing transition points in their career/life (parenthood, retirement, injury, etc.). Additionally, I enjoy working with teens/teen athletes, women of all ages, and child-free individuals and couples.

I am dedicated to working with people who want to get at the roots of their emotional pain and distress. My fundamental approach to treatment is relational. Therapy is a process where we will develop an alliance in which your emotional and developmental needs are made a priority. Over time, an internalized healing space forms where you can recover access to parts of your true self. Speaking freely without unnecessary self-censorship may be simple, but it is not easy. I encourage you to try it.

Art is inherently therapeutic. I know because I experienced significant childhood trauma and art was a refuge for me. With the consistent presence of a warm and loving art teacher, I found both identity and stability.   Now, through the lens of psychology and spirituality, I offer this to clients.

I'm a specialized therapist who works primarily with neurodivergence, specifically ADHD, OCD, autism & borderline spectrums, and chronic depression, anxiety, & bipolar disorders. I also have expertise in complex trauma issues, often stemming from narcissistic family systems or relationship abuse. Many of my clients possess an excellent or above-average capacity for self-reflection and introspection. However, they feel their heightened self-awareness can sometimes backfire, magnifying feelings of powerlessness and frustration when they find themselves stuck in repetitive patterns and unable to make desired changes in their behaviors.

As your therapist I will work hard to provide you with the tools to overcome obstacles and reach your personal goals. Unlocking your potential will be our primary aim along with developing an awareness of how we create our own blocks. You will also work towards becoming more yourself as strange as that may sound! This involves getting in touch with your own psyche to discover, or rediscover, what makes you tick. It can be an incredibly rewarding process.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
