I help individuals overcome trauma, anxiety, and creative blocks.
Are you overwhelmed, ruminating, insecure, or stuck in self-loathing and surviving instead of thriving in your relationships, work and creativity? Are anxiety, past traumatic experiences, or being an adult child of a dysfunctional home affecting your relationships and success? Or maybe you’re there but can't beat this last level 99 boss. If you’d like to gain mastery of yourself and live a more purposeful, joyful, and authentic life, I can help you rescue control of your nervous system and emotions by healing your body and mind through new, positive experiences.

In my practice, I offer both EMDR (for those with trauma) and talk therapy (psychodynamic, CBT, ACT, attachment-focused).
I honestly love my work. Working in LGBTQ+ mental health since 2013, I get to support clients with many different needs. A lot of my work focuses on: gender identity, medical and social gender transition, gender-affirming surgery prep & letters, coming out, self-esteem, HIV/AIDS, nonmonogamy, kink, stigma, discrimination, and building healthy relationships. My liberation-focused framework is collaborative, affirming, and intersectional. Beyond queer-specific issues, my focus also includes EMDR, trauma recovery, PTSD, ADHD, autism, neurodiversity, depression, anxiety, & recovery from unhealthy/narcissistic relationships.

I work with individuals managing anxiety, depression, trauma, and codependency.
“Why am I the way I am?” You have found yourself asking this question more times than you’ve answered it. Sometimes finding yourself feels like an impossible task. Perhaps it’s become second nature to place your needs last. Your inner voice, which has been placed on the backburner one too many times, is calling out to you for attention. Welcome to the first of many steps in creating change. This path in self-exploration may bring feelings of excitement, hopefulness, fear, and uncertainty. Wherever you are in your journey, I am here to listen and support you.

As a practitioner of Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), I specialize in helping people heal from trauma, depression, and anxiety. I assist clients in a process of deep self-discovery using ETT, psychotherapy, and movement. ETT can help clients to heal more effectively from long-standing and painful patterns than traditional talk therapies alone. I treat a wide variety of conditions that prevent people from living an optimum life. My ideal client is committed to change, may have been in prior therapy that has not yet shifted fundamental maladaptive patterns, and open to new ways of thinking and feeling about themselves.

I work with students, creative professionals, and individuals with ADHD through a culturally competent and trauma-sensitive lens.
Hi, I'm Helen - a Filipina Asian American therapist. First, I want to acknowledge your decision to start therapy. This decision might come from the realization that "something isn't right". You might be scared, lost, and dealing with a lot of anxiety, sadness, and grief. You may even be struggling secretly. But, you don't have to struggle through this alone. l believe therapy is a brave space to reclaim your identity and begin learning the skills necessary to create a meaningful life. We can work together to help unlearn patterns that don't serve you, to make space for healthy communication and peace.

I am passionate about helping people break through and identify patterns that cover up their true Self and their gifts. Often people find themselves stuck, struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or addiction, continually repeating behaviors or unfulfilling relationships at home or work. In a non-judgmental and compassionate way, it is my goal to help you uncover and transform those issues that keep you stuck and/or in pain, and learn to be curious to rediscover a more loving Self.

Christopher Reeve said, "Once you choose hope anything is possible" and therapy builds hope. I specialize in helping trauma survivors find relief from the effects of traumatic experiences. Trauma happens when our mind and body become so overwhelmed that we cannot process it or make sense of what has happened. Complex trauma is experienced when trauma is perpetuated over a long period of time and the traumatic-state becomes "the norm." Together we will work to build resilience, reduce suffering, affect positive behavioral changes, and learn healthy coping skills.

To change or not to change? One of the most frustratingly human experiences in life is wanting to change for the better only to find yourself repeating the same ineffective patterns and mistakes. This is where counseling can come into play. By understanding your own motivations and the internal barriers getting in the way of change, you can develop new strategies to know yourself better and develop tools to handle the challenges and stressors of life. My practice is client-centered, strength-based, motivational, and grounded in cognitive behavioral ideas.

I use a combination of techniques, grounded in neuroscience, to treat the trauma underlying anxiety, depression, eating disorders, grief, and many other issues, so that you can free yourself from your past and look forward to a more resilient and joyful future.
Do you struggle with shame and self-judgment? Have you experienced the same conflicts, over and over again, with family, friends, partners, or bosses, and not known how to resolve them? Have you wondered why everyone else's life feels so easy while yours is so hard... or worried that you are so broken, you will never be happy?

I specialize in culturally-sensitive treatment of individuals with: depression, anxiety, insomnia, suicidal thoughts, trauma, substance abuse, domestic abuse, decreased motivation, stress, grief, family, & relationship difficulties.
When people come to therapy, it's as if they are saying, "I really don't want to walk home by myself". There are few opportunities to spend one day per week, dedicated to you (or your family perhaps)...accompanied by someone who is empathetic, non-judgmental, and has reserved a safe space for you to release, explore, & process your thoughts, feelings, fears, reactions, progress, and triumphs, all "without guilt".

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
