Many of us face overwhelming changes and are looking for a place to sort through it all. You may seek to deepen insight, heal, and make meaning of your challenges. Perhaps you are experiencing anxiety, a major life transition, or difficulties in your relationships. You may also have lived with trauma or chronic illness and wish to have a space that's safe and free of judgment in order to process your experiences and move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and understanding.

The therapeutic process can be a journey of self-discovery and change. The ultimate goal of my practice is to help others gain a greater degree of control over their lives and experience more fulfilling relationships, work and play. My style is warm and direct, with a touch of humor. I conceptualize primarily from a psychodynamic perspective and the heart of our work together is establishing a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship—this alliance has consistently been identified within therapy outcome research as an important factor related to therapy success.

**Unfortunately I am currently at capacity and am unable to accept new client referrals.** Each of us come to junctures in our lives that make us question our ability or our will to push forward. Often we struggle to find others we feel can help us along our way, who we trust to hold and respect our pain. Seeking support in therapy can be the first step to re-gaining a sense of control, a value of one's own self-worth, and a hope in the possibility of change. I am a person-centered clinical social worker who values the honesty, exploration, reflection, challenge, balance, and care that a therapeutic relationship can provide.

I have a holistic view of people and believe that healing occurs through relationship. I also believe that every person experiences the desire for connection and growth, even, perhaps especially, when we feel lost. I believe we all fall away from our core selves at times, and need help reconnecting with our inner compass.

The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

Welcome. I delight working alongside people of all ages individually, as a family, and with groups. At different life stages, we all navigate growth spurts such as starting school/college, jobs, relationships, moving into elderhood. Figuring ourselves out - our inner wishes, styles, patterns, relationships and how to enact them - often benefits from exploration, support and guidance. I bring experience in multicultural, multisystemic and multimodal problem-solving to these turning points that can include expressive, mindfulness, CBT, etc. I've particularly worked for years alongside children and the adults who care for them(c).

Effective psychotherapy is a collaborative process and begins with a motivated client and a well-trained clinician. Whether you're dealing with a challenging relationship, a frustrating career, or symptoms of anxiety or depression, therapy can be a highly effective resource. In the first couple of sessions, I conduct an evaluation to familiarize myself with your presenting issues and history. We then take steps to hone skills you already have and to develop new strategies to help you navigate your life more successfully. Depending on your needs and preferences, we can work in a short-term model or on an open-ended basis.

Even in the darkest of moments, it’s important that you know that you are deserving of feeling good and being well. Yet, experiences can challenge just how much you believe that is possible. You may begin to doubt, doubt turns into inaction, and inaction turns into many dark days and nights. You may feel lost, but hope is not gone. Within our work together we clarify your vision of wellness, examine roadblocks, and identify smart strategies to make life begin to work for you.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
