I consider it my personal mission to reduce the divorce rate in the United States, 1 couple at a time. But preventing divorce will only be succesful if, in place of unfulfilling or chronically dysfunctional marriages, couples develop truly thriving marriages & deeply fulfilling relationships. Even in the most hopeless-seeming cases, couples can heal the damage from the past and move forward in a healthier way. Not all marriages can be saved, but when couples do the work to heal the past, their future can be happier, no matter what the outcome for the relationship.

I believe in the inherent ability of a person to heal and make changes that will help establish a full and meaningful life experience. It is often the messages we learn subtly and hold onto, about what our experiences mean, about ourselves and the world around us, that inhibit this natural process of self acceptance and positive growth. As part of the therapeutic relationship, my hope is to provide a supportive space, and a sense of unconditional positive regard, for one to explore the conflicts that keep us "stuck" today.

What I feel I have to offer people is a helpful relationship based on acceptance and safety. My hope is always that together within this supportive relationship you can feel free to explore your thoughts, feelings, strengths, challenges and choices. I've found that understanding and accepting where we are gives us a strong foundation to sustain positive change. In over 30 years of professional experience, I've never worked with a person whose conditions/situations did not make sense, once these experiences have been understood.

I utilize different treatment approaches depending upon the needs of each client, often incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.
I provide therapy to people struggling with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, PTSD, life transitions, ADHD, perinatal and postpartum depression. I also help clients who need help with managing conflict, maintaining boundaries, and improving communication skills. If you are going through a divorce, I can assist with the grief process. Therapy is a collaborative process that can only be experienced in a safe and trusting relationship, so finding the "right fit" therapist is crucial to the success of therapy.

I provide psychodynamic therapy to individuals (ages 14+) and couples. This type of therapy addresses the underlying causes and meanings of unwanted symptoms and dysfunctional patterns. It heals by bringing unconscious content to consciousness and by fostering deeper relationships with parts of ourselves we previously ignored, denied or even disdained. Psychodynamic therapy is often well suited for those who haven’t responded well to other types of therapy.

I approach counseling from a holistic perspective utilizing cognitive, psychodynamic and compassion-based therapy.
Growth, change and healing are difficult. To heal, we must know ourselves and how we make meaning of events and situations. Ancestral psychotherapy may provide a gateway to find one's fit in the world. Through courage and bravery we may begin to understand our own life story. The journey through life has many mountains and valleys but I will walk with you as you try to make sense of your place in the world. Compassion and conversation will reveal some goals to work towards to help you or your family feel whole. I work with both individuals and families to grow, change and heal.

I see therapy as the process of learning to tap into your inner source of strength. I get that looking inward isn't always easy, so that's where I come in. Partnering with your own intuition, self-compassion and humor, we will work together to create and help you embody your unique vision of your best self. I provide a safe space for you to explore your experiences, understand your inner self and learn practical coping strategies. As a therapist with ADHD, I have a unique perspective that enriches my practice and allows me to connect with you on a deeply empathetic level. I am a neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician.

Let today be the day you reach out for help. No problem is too big or too small to work on if it's causing you distress. I have success working with clients that are feeling anxious, depressed, grieving, over thinking, struggling in their relationships and using substances or other unhealthy ways to cope. It's very easy to slip into bad habits, especially if we don't know healthier ways to manage life's stressors. Many of us have been told to "Just try harder", or to "Pull ourselves up by our bootstraps" and ultimately feel defeated when these strategies don't work.

**Telehealth sessions are available.** It's important to me to cultivate a safe relationship space with everyone I see in counseling. We will collaborate, question, reflect, and explore positive directions based on your unique situation, concerns, strengths and individual sense of meaningfulness. Although my comfort zone within the range of life is relatively broad, I do have some special interest in areas related to substance use, family counseling and all facets of pre/post natal concerns.

I provide faith-based counseling for people who want to find help and hope for life's problems. I am glad to work with anyone age 13 and over, but I focus on adult individuals and couples. I have a special interest in counseling and coaching men. I work with people on issues of grief, anxiety, depression, self-image, marriage, pre-marital, stress, perfectionism, vocation/career, spiritual crisis, and spiritual/religious abuse. The most helpful psychotherapy is a collaborative respectful relationship that honors your innate healing abilities. I will create a safe space for you to explore situations that are currently hindering you from living the life you desire. These might include past or recent traumatic experiences, behaviors that feel compulsive and/or harmful, life transitions, societal pressures, or the desire to "have it all together." Sometimes we seek relief in the wrong places which leaves us emotionally burnt out and seeking answers externally when the key to change is within.

Are you feeling stuck, frustrated, or disconnected? Has something in your life become unmanageable? You've probably tried talking with your family and friends, only to feel more frustrated and confused. Thinking about the future is hard because you feel discouraged. You are stuck in a routine that is holding you in place. You have probably noticed that your relationships are suffering because you feel disconnected; you do not have the same eagerness to connect with your loved ones because you are using all your energy to make it through the days. The things you used to enjoy are a distant memory.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
