I see my job as supporting people in stepping into lives of consciousness, authenticity, meaning, and joy - whatever that looks like for each particular person. My focus is primarily with people who are dealing with grief, addiction / recovery, and/or aging, although many of my clients are outside these particular categories but yet are longing for a deeper life. To get there, healing has to happen first. Trauma needs to be addressed. Beliefs, communication styles, and relationship patterns that are limiting need to be considered and reformulated. Stressors and anxiety needs to be managed. This is the path we travel together.

My areas of clinical focus are veterans, first responders, trauma, substance use, grief/loss, Christian spirituality, and existential issues.
I entered the counseling profession to support individuals who are having difficulties facing life’s challenges. I have found that many people struggle because they have created unrealistic expectations about the support, relationships, and encouragement they need. I believe that as humanity becomes “busier,” life becomes more complicated, affecting relationships and how we see ourselves fitting in the world. Life is often full of difficult and complicated experiences that are difficult to overcome, especially without support. Ultimately, these difficulties distract us from pursuing what enriches our lives.

Psychotherapy is a powerful tool for breaking out of confusion and pain. For 21 years I have worked with people seeking help with depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, job problems, trauma, gender identity issues, relationships, loneliness, anger, existential questions and unhappiness. One of my specialties is Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which I find to be very effective method of treating post-traumatic stress resulting from trauma such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. I also have worked extensively with couples, helping them establish goals for the relationship, teaching communication and conflict resolution skills.

I integrate a variety of modalities such as ACT, CBT, narrative therapy, and mindfulness to help clients address anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, grief/loss, chronic illness, and identity exploration.
NOTE: I am currently accepting new clients for virtual therapy! As we navigate the complex ups and downs of life, it is vital to have a safe space in which we can share, heal, and grow. Part of what it means to be human is to experience difficulties, doubts, and pain from time to time. But without a space to give voice to them, the challenges we face can begin to weigh us down, hold us back, and dominate the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves. In therapy, we’ll work together to give voice to your story — and give you the space, time, and support you need to write your next chapter with intention.

If you are struggling with relationships and life changing events, if you feel trapped in a never ending feeling of helplessness or anger, I can help you find your path back to a stable and safe place. For almost 20 years, I have guided patients to reflection and introspection, where I have empowered them to use the appropriate tools to manage, control and overcome their depression, their overwhelming feelings of loss or self destruction. Sadly enough, these are all to common life struggles arisen from work stress and/or abuse, life changes such as divorce and separation, or remains of a lost childhood.

Waitlist for new clients
I have extensive training in bereavement, chronic and terminal illness, and trauma.
Good psychotherapy requires a "match" between client(s) and therapist and avoids "stretching the client to fit the couch." Finding the right psychotherapist involves both clinical skill and personality match. A good therapist is genuine, warm, and offers a human relationship with active listening, guidance, and good advice. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, what I offer as a clinician is an active style of psychotherapy with a high regard for where you are in your journey, what your goals are, and what things can be pointed out and changed along the path to growth and improved relationships.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
