I believe that every person develops strategies for managing the pain, disconnection, and brokenness that arise out of our stories of harm. Oftentimes these protective strategies hinder the connection and relationships we so desperately desire. I am passionate about helping clients navigate the seemingly desolate and stuck places they find themselves, and ultimately moving towards healing and growth.

Have you ever been told you are "too much" but you constantly feel like you aren't enough? Or have you ever been depressed but felt guilty because outside looking in you "have it all together"? I've been there and I know how it feels. As a therapist, I offer empathy and help you develop healthy strategies to mute those negative thoughts. I give you the tools to ask for what you need in personal and professional relationships. I remind you that anxiety, depression, and past traumas do not make you broken or flawed. Your brain just works differently and I show you ways to manage that. I believe in you!

Feeling lost, empty, overwhelmed, or a sense that something is wrong with you? Does it seem like you’re always stuck between feeling like ‘too much’ or ‘not enough?’ Maybe you’ve never truly felt seen, or you push others away before they can see the real you. To be authentically heard, understood, and accepted are fundamental human needs. Whether you’re seeking therapy to heal wounds, navigate relationships, break patterns of self-sabotage, or to explore your identity, I am honored to be a part of your journey.

People come to a counselor for a myriad of reasons, but usually not without having tried to solve their problems or resolve their conflicts on their own. It can be difficult to admit that you need help and even harder still to ask for it. If the way forward seems unclear, then counseling may be the next step on your pathway to healing. My clients come with issues ranging from mood disorders (i.e. anxiety, depression) to trauma. They have personal and/or relationship struggles. What they have in common is that they want a change in their life.

I work with adults who are seeking greater connection to their bodies and innate creativity. Adults seeking personal transformation will develop their intuition and enhance their connection to self and others through dance/movement therapy. Whether someone has never danced before or has a movement background, this work can help heal trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. Many clients wonder if this is doable in telehealth, and it is! We also use a great deal of talking, implementing coping skills, optional homework, and EMDR when appropriate.

Therapy for MEN and COUPLES. Many of us have struggled with troubling, unwanted thoughts, compulsive behaviors, broken vows, traumatic childhoods, or some enslaving addiction. Our lives are pockmarked by pain, and wounded by those we love (and we have hurt them in turn). However, this pain does not have to have the final word. We can live a life we love, one that is consistent with our deepest values. A life of peace, tenderness, freedom, courage, and love.

I love working with a wide variety of clients, but I truly feel like I am operating in my gifting when I sit with clients who are working through depression, anxiety, or loneliness. Furthermore, my education combined with personal and professional experience has opened the door for me to work with clients who may be trying to leave an abusive relationship or who are trying to discern if they are are in an abusive/unhealthy relationship. That said, these are not the only issues I help clients with. If you have questions about how I work or the types of clients I see, give me a call.

In this life there is always something that makes us change. Human nature says that it is love or the loss of something or someone. If you think you need help to achieve your goals or make the necessary changes to be successful, you have to give yourself a chance. During therapy you have the necessary space to talk about the different barriers that are a challenge for you. I work with different people who are going through different personal situations, having challenges with their families, or struggling in their marriage.

Maybe you have been taught that loving yourself is selfish, you find that you are your own harshest critic, and the voice in your head has a lot of negative things to say. It is difficult to know how to listen to your own needs and make space for them. Therapy is a safe space to give back to yourself and learn to be gentle with your own experience. You are worth the time and energy to love and care for yourself the way you do for others.

You’ve been the rescuer, the caregiver, the rock for years, and it’s finally taking its toll on you. You’ve learned to hide your fatigue and your pain really well. In fact, you’d be surprised if anyone knew how much you really struggle and how your thoughts race at night when the world is quiet. Words like “weak” or “not fit for duty” push you to burrow down further into your isolation. But what if there was a better way? Together, we are going to work through this. You have finally found a place to exhale.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
