By answering this questions, clients/patients identify and eventually change self-defeating habits, beliefs, and patterns caused by trauma, substance abuse/addiction, and chronic stress. Signs of negative impact include anger, low mood,multiple marriages, work problems, and eventually job loss.

Our life's work is helping clients achieve a better sense of self and happiness...more recently we've recognized that without good mental health providers, finding this balance in life can be more difficult and stressful. As a result, we tend toward an Integrative approach and help our clients transform into the people they want to be. We see each client as an individual with many parts to their identity. Utilizing a holistic and systemic approach we help clients reintegrate the parts of themselves to function better as individuals and within their systems. Our focus tends toward a systems based approach using behavior methods.

I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, binge eating disorder, trauma/PTSD, addiction, women's/men's issues, domestic violence/abuse, and other socioemotional and interpersonal related concerns. Clinically, I work with clients (adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families) primarily through a cognitive-behavioral approach, fostering empathy and authenticity in a non-judgmental, safe, and supportive environment. I also work strongly through a collaborative approach, helping clients gain a deeper understanding into their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions in order to help cultivate positive change.

Many people avoid seeking help for fear that they or their children will be labeled. My motto is: "Peel off the labels and see the person underneath." I believe you are a person with unique needs, strengths, and challenges, that there are complex reasons you are living the life you are living today - AND, you can improve. Emotional pain and problems are just as natural and normal as physical pain and problems. When we let go of the labels we have about ourselves, our problems, or therapy in general, we can begin healing the pain and resolving the problems.

When you or your child/teen is struggling, you want strategies to combat challenges NOW. At North Shore Family Services, we empower kids, teens, and adults to learn tools, so they can succeed independently. Our goal is for children, teens, adults, parents, and couples to learn skills to be successful with school, peers, work, and family- long after therapy ends. We assist with IEP and 504 plans to help our children/teen clients succeed where they spend most of their day- out of their parents' sight. Parents are our partners in helping kids and teens learn life skills.

My ideal patients are children through adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and relationship stress and conflict. I help guide patients towards the achievement of goals through highlighting independent strengths and challenges within larger systems or relationships. I incorporate techniques from Attachment-Based Therapy, CBT, Family-Systems, Relational Therapy, and TF-CBT. I am trauma-informed, and help advocate for safe relationships and equity, and promote social and emotional wellbeing. I help my patients learn and implement tools for navigating change, liberation, and healing.

Vanessa is a dedicated therapist in Chicago, holding a master's degree in Clinical Psychology and licensures as a Board Certified Dance Movement (BC-DMT) Therapist and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and is completing her doctorate in Expressive Arts Therapy. Vanessa radiates warmth and spunk. It’s not unusual for her clients to experience an array of emotions: crying, laughter, sadness, and hope; all within a single session.

Farah helps clients feel connected and safe - she strives to create a foundational sense of peace in all her clients. With goals and new perspective, she helps clients also establish boundaries and new ways of being with factors that harbor negativity. She views the therapeutic relationship as a space to model and practice building healthy relationships in real time, while also figuring out ways to improve day-to-day relationships with others and the world around them. Communication issues, trauma, gaslighting, attachment concerns, general stress are all thing Farah helps clients work through for more fulfilling life experiences.

Amy believes that change and growth happen within a safe and secure relationship. Oftentimes our symptoms serve a deeper purpose and Amy curiously and compassionately will help you explore that purpose. She believes early relationships impact current functioning. Amy is passionate about working with clients around issues of trauma, anxiety, substance use, identity, spirituality, religious harm, and relational distress. Amy also works with children and families who have experienced trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and behavioral issues. Amy involves parents/caregivers to address parental concerns and promote healthy parent/child attachment.
