One way I've been able to help people is to assist them in preventing things in their life from getting worse and at the same time, helping them to overcome the obstacles in order to make things better.

My practice reflects my core values of kindness, trust, respect, and genuineness. My approach to therapy isn’t one of rigidity but connection and collaboration. Together, we work in a non-judgmental space to explore and discover what is blocking you in your path. While my area of expertise is in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, I can successfully help guide you through experiencing a life transition or struggles in a relationship. Obstacles come in many forms but my goal is always the same: an effective, solution-focused treatment.

There's a lot of difficulty in the world, and it's easy to be overtaken by stress, anxiety, depression, and more- and there's no shame in this, pain is as old as time.
My ideal client is struggling in the world, looking for a direction and sense of purpose. They may not feel ready to make "big" changes, but they are ready enough to come through the door and share their experience.

Are you feeling consumed by worry and anxiety? Do you feel that some days you struggle to complete basic tasks? Are you finding that you doubt yourself and your choices? You are doing your best to survive, coping in ways you’ve learned due to your environment and past experiences. Although you realize these reactions or behaviors cause more pain, you are simply doing the best you can. Relationships around you, both personal and professional, feel the pressure and you are ready to explore change. I have years of experience supporting Mental Health and Addiction. Change is possible and healing DOES come.

I specialize in treating a broad range of issues including depression, PTSD, anxiety, pervasive size-based stigma, grief and loss, and navigating cross-class, cross-cultural, interfaith, and non-monogamous relationships.
People come to therapy for a variety of different reasons. Some individuals embark on a therapeutic process with specific goals in mind or because they have recently been impacted by particularly challenging life events. Others may pursue therapy and specifically creative arts psychotherapy as an on-going process toward deeper self-knowledge, growth, and healing. I offer individuals and couples an approach that is holistic, client-centered, non-judgmental and creative through traditional talk therapy, creative arts infused therapy, and often a synthesis of the two.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
