The very place where safety and nurturing were expected became the source of fear and confusion. Some can't really remember trauma, they have just always known this sense of dread and excessive worry. My mission is to create an accepting and supportive environment that helps you recognize patterns in your life that maintain your distress and find new thoughts and actions that will bring you the freedom to become the best version of yourself.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have worked in the mental health field for the last ten years. I love working with people who are hurting and have given up hope. I believe that body, mind, and spirit are equally important in maintaining health and wholeness, and I approach restoration from a holistic point of view. I believe that our past does not have to define us, and we each have the power to write the next chapters of our lives.

Served as an Army Social Work Officer, psychiatric team in Vietnam (1968-69), I treat military, vet & other civilian clients re depression, anxiety, grief, substance abuse, existential malaise, aging, PTSD related to war/hazardous duty -- first responders, natural disasters, accidents, race-related, sexual & other abuse. As a Social Work Professor Emeritus, I counsel re school & life adjustment issues for young adults & non-traditional students. I teach faith-based & secular forms of meditation to address various issues: OCD, mood, anxiety, anger, concentration, trauma...

I help my clients identify and resolve underlying issues contributing to anxiety, depression, unhealthy relationship patterns and more. Our meetings will offer you a time to be able to understand yourself & your behaviors more fully, and also be challenged to change the behaviors that are no longer serving you. Clinical psychoeducation & homework will be tailored to your specific goals. I endeavor to make my therapy room a place where you will feel seen & supported, while also being equipped with the skills and information to make the changes you desire.

I meet with individuals, couples, and families of all ages to help them find better ways of dealing with problems disrupting their lives. Often times people find themselves repeating the same cycles of conflict, frustration, worry, fear, and shame. I work with people to identify these patterns so that they can make choices that enhance their relationships, lead to personal growth, and break from the pattern.

What do clients want? To be understood, validated, encouraged, respected. To feel “heard” with empathy. To learn new strategies to lower anxiety, depression, manage stress, and to feel positive self worth. A therapist who can identify BARRIERS in a client’s life: undiagnosed ADHD, ADHD misdiagnosed as anxiety/ depression, having unhealthy boundaries, believing what your abuser(s) said/say about you, being nonassertive and a therapist who can help you turn barriers/problems into opportunities for change and grow.th. My name is Nathaniel Mitchell, and I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) based in the Central Mississippi area and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, oppositional behaviors, and attention-deficit disorder. I used various evidence-based interventions according to the specific needs of the client. I earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas, at Tyler Texas. I have 20 years experience in counseling individuals, groups and families. I enjoy helping people to consider new perspectives and to experience health and joy in their lives and relationships.

My aim as a psychotherapist is to provide a supportive and safe environment where open expression and exploration of thoughts and feelings can freely take place. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor trained in motivational interviewing, and multiple behavioral therapies. I have prior experience as a therapist as an addiction counselor, child and family therapist, as well as those in the inpatient psychiatric setting. With better awareness, we can identify life goals, change undesirable behaviors, improve relationship patterns and achieve greater self-acceptance.

Asking for help can be off-putting. I’m the therapist for people who “don’t like therapy”. The people that find me are often new to the process, uncomfortable with asking for help and/or or have negative past experiences with therapy. so when an individual finally decides to come talk, I want them to be received by someone who is real, authentic, relatable and non-judgmental.
