I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Michigan with over 5 years of experience working as a Clinical Crisis Counselor and Family Therapist.
Do you feel anxious, sad, or stressed out from trying to navigate life on your own? Do you feel misunderstood, disconnected from loved ones, or stuck in patterns you feel powerless to change? Are you questioning aspects of your identity, striving to find a purpose, or deconstructing from beliefs which cause you internal conflict? If so, you have come to the right place. I believe that no question is inappropriate to ask, no issue is too challenging to face, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. My goal is to create a safe space where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment or shame.

I believe that regardless of "why" a youth or family is in distress, the family should be met where they are today, then to work collaboratively to leverage the individual and familial strengths to establish or regain integration, balance, and wellness through the process of change.
I have developed specialized clinical skills through experiences working with individuals and families with early childhood to adolescent difficulties. I have helped families obtain better balance while struggling with distressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, social/peer issues, difficulty at school, behavior problems, ADHD, and developmental delays. I have competency in understanding youth and their families’ individualistic relational challenges with separation, divorce, and co-parenting. I help youth, and their families, in developing skills and tools to increase the likelihood of success.

I graduated from Calvin University and earned a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary.
Hi there! I am excited to hear your story and walk alongside you. In therapy, we will work to understand the feelings, behavior, and relationship patterns that exist in your life. I’ll guide you in how to address the areas of your life that no longer work well for you. Therapy sessions with me are relational and practical. As a relational therapist, I work to actively listen and accurately understand the emotions and underlying needs that drive each person’s choices and behaviors. As a practical therapist (and former teacher), I enjoy providing functional tools for how to effectively cope and thrive.

This may be through symptom management of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, Couples Counseling, Family Therapy, Parenting, or working through past trauma.
Today's society can be very overstimulating and can make it hard to focus on our inner experience of emotions. Sometimes we need an opportunity to slow down and process whether our feelings, thoughts and behaviors are helping or getting in the way of where we want to be as - as individuals and in relationship with others.

I have worked in a variety of areas in the mental health field, including college counseling, in-home counseling, and outpatient counseling providing individual, family, and couples counseling.
Clients have expressed that my positivity and humor, mixed with realism and accountability, are helpful in the therapy process. Together we will build an authentic connection, get to the core of recurring problems, and heal from life events. One of my favorite quotes is, “No one knows you better than yourself”. Even so, at times we struggle to heal and make changes on our own. Sometimes we need help evaluating our relationships and experiences from a new perspective.

The ideal person to meet with me is somebody who struggles with trauma and is struggling to overcome the wounds left by the trauma. People struggling with trauma can be people struggling with symptoms from PTSD or developmental traumas. PTSD typically includes people who have experienced or witnessed deadly events or sexual trauma. People with developmental trauma include people who did not experience an organized and loving attachment with their caregivers while they were growing up. In therapy, we work together to identify interventions that meet their specific needs.

Individuals seek therapy for many issues. I have been afforded the opportunity to work alongside people that want help in managing Anxiety, Depression, Self-Esteem barriers and daily stress. Often times these issues are masked by deep rooted trauma, grief and abuse. Individuals need encouragement, support, feeling that they are heard and validation while on their journey to healing.

I believe in order to make changes in our lives, we must first examine the impact that past relationships, experiences, and environments have had on us. The therapeutic process allows us to examine and process how things that have happened to us can impact who we are as individuals and integrate the past into who we are in the present. The therapeutic relationship can help us to identify sources of resilience and strength that can help us to overcome past negative experiences. By connecting our past with who we are in the present, we can start the process of change.

My ideal client is one that is their authentic self in sessions. I find that when a client is open and honest about who they are and what they struggle with they are also more successful at achieving their goals. I typically see teens and adults who struggle with things like: anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, fear of failure, grief, trauma, and life transitions. I find that most clients want to be heard, understood and validated.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
