Therapists in Encinitas

Centered Ground, Treatment Facility in Encinitas
“Centered Ground is the only provider of radically open DBT (RO-DBT) in the greater San Diego area. RO-DBT is the most current adaptation of traditional DBT for individuals who struggle with patterns overcontrolled behavior and emotional inhibition, including restricting eating disorders (e.g., anorexia nervosa), pervasive anxiety disorders, and chronic depression. RO-DBT provides psychoeducation and tools to address the underlying neurobiology behind these patterns, to facilitate greater self-understanding, compassion, and desired connection in relationships. The program includes a weekly two-hour skills training class. Dr. Klein directs and leads the program, based on her training through Behavioral Tech, with Dr. Thomas Lynch, of Southampton University in the UK, who developed the adaptation and has researched it for over the past 20 years. Dr. Klein is one of the 1st 60 clinicians in the U.S. to complete Dr. Lynch's intensive training in this approach and her supervision with Dr. Lynch is ongoing.

Essentially, ZenPsych is the integration of Western psychology with Eastern contemplative practices, mainly Zen, also referred to as mindfulness. This blended approach is equally well suited for those dealing with problems (such as depression, anxiety or stress, anger, relationships) versus those interested in peak-performance.

“There comes a time, when you're done beating the drum of the past & ready to move forward in the light of your truest self! About 7 years ago, during my quest to understand myself, my family, friends and co-workers better, I realized that there is no such thing as 'one solution fits all'. There are aspects of us that go beyond our history and must be recognized and understood in order to create fulfillment in our relationships and in life.

Kent Bennington, Psychologist in Encinitas
“Emotional crises often lead to a sense of helplessness in the face of life's apparent need to push us beyond our limits of tolerance. I find richness in working with patients in crisis who are willing to reach out for help and to look honestly at themselves. I've grown over many years of practice in the conviction that whether a person is capable of change is not the question. The issue, more often, is how one stops himself or herself from maturing when confronted with difficult and sometimes overwhelming circumstances.

“I am always curious about what brings clients into psychotherapy at a particular juncture of their lives and what they are hoping to be different as a result of conversations with someone like me. Once the responses to this curiosity are articulated and there is a clear purpose and direction for therapy, I listen for what a client already knows and what the client strengths and personal resources currently are and what they have been in the past. This becomes the context for conversations which have the possibility of leading toward preferred changes in the client's life and in its direction.
