I believe that therapy is a collaborative process in which deep, lasting, positive changes emerge. Anxiety, low self esteem, trauma, eating disorders, relationship problems, and life transitions can prevent you from living a full life. I can help you increase your self confidence, overcome the effects of trauma, resolve past hurts and conflicts, develop confidence in yourself as a good friend and loving partner, change old patterns, and balance career and personal choices. I provide an atmosphere of acceptance and curiosity where hurts and conflicts are released, and confidence, insight, trust, and wisdom are strengthened.

You are not alone. No one goes through life without facing challenges or without suffering. Everyday life often spurs mental health challenges which can weigh us down and make us feel stuck. Chronic anxiety, depression, problematic reactions to trauma, issues in relationships, self-criticism, issues with substances/food, and a host of other common mental health related challenges indicate a need for help. Life transitions and experiences of loss/grief are also times when help is often needed. While no one can escape challenges or suffering, wounds can be healed, and a life centered in solid mental health is possible for everyone.

Transformative healing is possible. We have felt it, and we know that sometimes people simply need support, guidance, and someone to walk alongside them in their time of need. At our center we strive to meet people where they are in their healing journey, in their transformations. We know that accessing therapy can be daunting, and sometimes scary, so we want to let you know that "we get it" and we will work to honor wherever you find yourself when you take the courageous step to seek support. Central to our center is the offering of individual/relational/group mental health services to, yet we are excited to encompass much more.

Trauma comes in many shapes and forms. A deeply distressing and disturbing experience in your life can have many negative effects such as feeling numb or like you’re just “going through the motions,” deep depression and sadness, or feeling “broken.” But you are not alone in feeling this way. I understand the power of trauma and how it can destroy you, overtaking your mind and your body. It’s a wound that changes a person. Especially if you don’t let it out. It finds unhealthy ways. The trauma can overpower you and take control. But you can become "unbroken."

Feeling stuck? Burned out or always overwhelmed? Not enjoying life the way everyone else seems to? Perhaps the coping strategies and/or relationships you've turned to for support in the past are no longer accessible or just not enough on their own. Most people starting or restarting therapy are looking for a change in some way. I believe that therapy is a place for reconnection, supportive challenge; a place to show up as your full self. We may be a good fit if you are looking for support with depression, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, toxic relationships, and/or LGBTQ2+ identity/gender affirmation.

I believe that we are all beings who ultimately desire to belong and that most of our traumas result from somewhere down the line not being accepted in some way, shape, or form. Frequently these wounds are in our subconscious and we have very little awareness of how much they can control our day-to-day interactions. What’s left unaddressed has a funny way of continuing to surface.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
