I enjoy working with those clients who recognize that change can happen and is good. I enjoy working with individuals, families, couples and groups. Those who recognize that change depends on them, individually and collectively. I do not cause change but only facilitate the process. As we are all in the process of living and life can sometimes be very difficult, we can learn and change everyday. I can help you become the person you want to be, just as the chrysalis wants and does become a beautiful butterfly.

Welcome! I am a licensed psychologist who provides psychotherapy for individual adults, couples, and adolescents. I have found that one of the most powerful ways to grow is the relationship between the psychotherapist and client. This connection can give way to discovering greater yearnings, self authenticity, capabilities, and dreams, while providing warmth and care for addressing one's obstacles such as fears, disappointments, and limits. I would help you to deal with conflicts that block your motivation and passion and help you open to new ways of engaging with your inner resources and with the significant people in your life.

Trauma and Neglect Survivors - I specialize in working with survivors of childhood, generational, and neurodiverse trauma - specifically adult children of narcissistic, emotionally immature and mentally unstable parents. Through understanding, compassion, playfulness, and sharing information, I will walk with you on your healing journey. Developmental trauma is sometimes hard to see, because for those who grew up in it, it was just normal. We were taught to keep secrets, be hypervigilant, and to do and become what the people around us needed so we could survive. Those coping skills helped us survive, but now are in our way.

I specialize in working with clients who have experienced narcissistic abuse. As an adult child of a narcissist myself, I know all too well how difficult it is to get help and to heal. Narcissism isn't necessarily overt abuse, especially for children, and it is often hard to figure out why you feel depressed, anxious, struggle with perfectionism, or keep finding yourself in codependent relationships as adults. Narcissistic abuse is trauma and it can keep you in survival mode for a very long time. As trauma therapist, I would love to help you learn to thrive, to find joy, to be free, and really live your own life. We do heal!

As an expert in Narcissistic Abuse, it has been my passion to help those who suffer at the hands of narcissists. To reach more people than I can see individually, I've written a book and trained the therapists who work in my group practice in how to work with survivor-victims of narcissistic abuse. Check out our website to see which therapists have availability & if they're licensed in your state. You can also find information on the release of "Swimming with Sharks: Surviving Narcissist-Infested Waters".

Each of us wants our story heard. Having experienced the pain cycle of love vs chaos in narcissistic-codependent relationships, I've known divorce, single-parenting hardships and poverty. I know the shame & pain of emotional abuse & alienation by a religious agency and it's followers, having lived on "both sides of ministry". I also know the beauty of rebuilding family brokenness, healthy remarriage, and the challenge of continued healing. There is power to break free and grow when we invite someone to walk alongside us, no matter how painful that journey. I am hear to listen, no judgments, with openness to your need.

One of my areas of interest is helping people recover from dysfunctional or narcissistic relationships.
Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, or trauma? Do you have problems with low self-esteem and have trouble asserting yourself in relationships? Are you experiencing emotional abuse from someone close to you such as a parent, sibling, co-worker, or a spouse? Have you ever been in a dysfunctional or narcissistic relationship, and find it hard to trust others? Please know that you are not alone. Many other people have felt the way you do. There is hope for healing, and you can have the life you have always wanted.

Viktor Frankl said "When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves." The ideal clients are individuals who recognize that they want to experience life differently so that they feel more connected to society. They are the individuals that pick up the phone, face their fears, and reach out for help and support. For Susanah, those are individuals who are thinking about sobriety and been released from the entrapment of substance use, others want to deal with trauma in their lives, and couples want to deal with the struggles in their relationship/marriage. Susanah's goal is to support your journey.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
