I’m a professional counselor specializing in the impacts of family culture, work culture, and consumer culture on our wellbeing.
Today, right here, right now, you’re ready to make something more of the limited time you have on this planet of ours. That’s why I’m delighted you’ve found me here. For the past 25 years, I’ve been helping individuals and couples just like you find their way. If you’re here for you, I’ll start by understanding where you’ve been, what you’ve gone through, as well as the harmful stories you’ve been told by others. Then, I’ll use a compassionate, insightful approach to therapy, and together we’ll break you free to reclaim your natural self, live a relationally rich life, and build a better tomorrow.

Trained in Family Systems, I work with individuals, couples and families. I am client centered and a bit more directive and goal oriented rather than passive. Your time is valuable. I want to see you get results. I offer clients resources and "exercises" to work on between sessions if you desire or you can simply work in sessions if you are too busy (many of us are!). I respect your background, values, beliefs, ethics, faith and what you bring to the process. We will collaborate in this process. You are the expert on YOU but I will give you ideas to help maximize your process.

Taking the time and investing in yourself will have a positive impact on your life and family.
Bringing home a new baby is a time filled with joy and happiness, but for some reason you don't feel that way, and find yourself feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, irritated, your mind is filled with scary thoughts, or worry that something bad may happen to your baby. Maybe you haven't shared these thoughts with anyone else for fear of judgment or that someone will take your baby away or think you're not fit to be a mother. All of these unwanted thoughts and feelings leave you wondering if you will ever feel yourself again and find relief.

My background comes from very strong Family Theory model, which helps me to understand peoples core issues and the basis for there relationship style.
I have a personable style of working with people which allows them to quickly settle into the therapy process. I focus on helping others learn how to rely on their inner resources which will define their true personality and recognize the beliefs or behaviors which hold them back from their full potential. This opens up the process to build new skills, a stronger self esteem, regain self confidence and a real sense of direction. With a renewed sense of personal strength people build healthier, happier relationships with family, friends and coworkers, and pursue vocations with greater success.

I’m trained in Marriage and Family Therapy, and see individuals and families.
My clients come from a variety of backgrounds, but often find themselves in the helping profession. Teachers, nurses, veterinarians, and EMTs, those who have a habit of putting others' needs before their own. My clients are often worn out, burnt out, and struggling with how to stay in their profession when they don't have energy or passion anymore. Many often feel guilty because they have a "good life" when you look from the outside and don't understand why they feel the way they do. At this time I an not working with children, however, I also love exploring parenting strategies and helping children succeed through family work

1) attachment strengthens while the family discover new meanings of the past.
Empowering parent's and caregiver's ability to connect with their child in a deep and meaningful way is the central focus of Spencer’s approach to overcoming challenges. This begins when parents/caregivers are able to resolve any challenges in the relationship that may be a barrier to therapy. Once this occurs, caregivers and their child can begin, in a safe and therapeutic environment, to explore the trauma, abuse, neglect, abandonment and loss which are the emotional source to behavioral struggles.

It also incorporates the body, home and family, social networks and the societal system that we live in.
I work with a wide range of clients and issues, however, the clients that benefit the most from working with me are ones who are looking for a partner in therapy. I believe that every person is the most accurate resource to understanding themselves and their world view. I would like to pair my knowledge about mental health with your lived experience and to help you create your own solutions. I provide an inclusive and non-judgmental space for all that walk through my door. Diversity is what creates beauty in this world and as such I strive for cultural sensitivity, body positivity, LGBTQIA+ rights and neurodivergence affirming.

Our lives, stress levels, family dynamics, and career can impact on our relationship.
No BS Couples Counseling for Colorado's Business Owners. Therapy at The Couples Workshop is short-term & solutions-focused. I believe problems in life or in your relationship will always happen. Instead of focusing on each problem you are experiencing, let’s work together to develop ways to have better disagreements and to manage that conflict. With your knowledge of what works and hasn’t worked in your relationship, we can create goals that work on effective relationship skills. This is what I consider real solutions for your real life: solutions that help tackle the stresses that will inevitably come.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
