Come to me for gender issues, PTSD, anxiety, existential concerns, and spirirual exploration.
I believe therapy is a joint venture. It takes both of us to create expertise about your unique psychology and spirit, and explore how that self-knowledge calls you. I am typically very active with you, suggesting interventions, offering ideas, giving "homework" between sessions. I'm experienced with depression, anxiety, trauma, post-trauma, sexuality, loss, and the search for meaning in life. These days, I see myself not only as a psychotherapist, but also as a teacher in Eastern Philosophies, especially the Tao. I weave these philosophies into the therapy to a greater or lesser extent, depending upon your wishes, and our agreement

I work with individuals with adjustment problems, couples (using Emotion Focused Therapy), military veterans, and survivors of trauma.
My approach to psychotherapy is based on attachment theory which states that our first important relationships (namely, with our parents) influence how we relate to those closest to us now. As infants, we learn to do whatever is necessary, including distorting our thoughts and feelings, in order to maintain that connection. This early experience even affects brain development setting the stage for depression, anxiety and dysregulation. Fortunately, current relationships (including with a therapist) can provide a corrective experience. That is the beauty of psychotherapy - by understanding how our past affects our present we are better able to negotiate our future.

I consider it an honor to guide people on their journey through this life, to help them release old patterns of thought, feeling and behavior that interfere with their sense of well-being and wholeness, resolve the effects of lingering pain and/or past trauma, explore what is important and meaningful in their lives, and find new purpose and depth in themselves and in their relationship to the world around them. If you find yourself lost, in your relationships and/or your life, in a world that makes little sense, we can find a path and way of being that feels right for you in the most fulfilling way.

When we are burdened by depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, fear, doubt, or insecurity, our ability to connect to the Authentic Self may become blocked.
The Authentic Self radiates divine, healing energy, and innate wisdom. It is our source of loving, compassionate energy that heals all dis-ease in our bodies, minds, and emotions. Some aspects of your Authentic Self include compassion, clarity, confidence, courage, patience, persistence, perspective, playfulness, gratitude, and curiosity. My intention, with profound curiosity, is to help you reconnect to your Authentic Self and rediscover the answers already within you, which may help ease your pain and suffering. This is called Internal Family Systems Therapy. I also offer group therapy for Eating Disorders and Women.

Welcome! It takes courage to be open and honest with a new therapist. I can help if you are struggling with your mood, feeling irritable, overwhelmed, sad or scared. I was able to truly find myself as a therapist, gain experience working with individuals 18+, learn about the way the court system works, especially with regards to drug and alcohol offenses, and also gain experience working with various presenting concerns, from depression and anxiety to trauma.
Hello! My name is Greg Corbett and I am a LMHC in the state of Massachusetts. I have been working as a therapist on some level for the last 7 years. During my time as an undergraduate, I had the pleasure of having two separate internships; one at a rape crisis/domestic violence hotline and one at a substance use treatment center. Through these two internships, I was able to learn what it was like to be a therapist and discover that I wanted to continue to pursue my education to become a therapist myself.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
