I take a whole body approach to health and illness with a focus on how the mind influences the body just as the body influences the mind. Anxiety, depression, and stress can impact health and exacerbate chronic pain, heart disease, insomnia, and other medical problems. However, addressing the emotional aspects of medical conditions can improve quality of life and physical health. Also, psychological principles can help enhance wellness and lead to lasting behavioral changes. As a health psychologist, I can help you emotionally cope with medical conditions, make healthy lifestyle choices, and learn skills to move forward with your life.

Coming to therapy might seem scary. While it does take courage, success is possible. I have gotten to hear many stories of redemption: marriages that seemed beyond hope gaining incredible intimacy, people whose lives have been riddled with anxiety finally start to take control, and mothers who feel lost in the daily struggle learning to find themselves again. It is possible and I believe you can do it. The road may not be easy but it is worth it. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral therapy and attachment theory.

Hi! I am currently accepting new clients - in person & virtually! I wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of empathy, which, when combined with connection, becomes the essential fuel for success. Many individuals have not experienced the true depth of being heard, understood, and loved, and some may not have felt encouraged to embrace their authentic selves. In counseling, I strive to create a non-judgmental space that is therapeutic, life-giving, safe & conducive to personal growth. Self-awareness, encompassing strengths, weaknesses, experiences, personality type & more, serves as a foundation for setting attainable

Most of us can easily think of the obvious benefits to counseling but a mental/emotional investment is required to reap those benefits. Unfortunately there is no magic wand or magic pill and as a therapist I cannot "fix" anyone. But...I can teach you how to use your thoughts for your success rather than your destruction. I can show you how your thoughts can be used as the steering wheel of your emotions and behavior. I can help you acquire and employ cognitive and behavioral strategies that will facilitate better communication and improve the relationship with yourself and others.

Life can be hard when we least expect it. I believe it's important for individuals to be able to recognize when there comes a time to ask for help. Counseling is a transformational process. I believe when you make time and invest the energy to allowing yourself to grow, succeed, and acknowledge all that you are capable of, it is priceless. I want to help you feel empowered to live your life with an abundance of confidence, strength, and peace. You deserve it because taking care of you matters. "We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden." - Johann von Goethe

People keep telling you that you are so strong- yet, you don't feel strong. You are tired of being strong. You are surrounded by friends and family who keep asking what they can do for you, but you don't know what to say. You feel so loved by the people around you and you also feel alone. You want to find yourself again and you want to have hope for the future. You want to find strength in the love you once had even as you move forward.

Everyone needs somebody to lean on. But what happens when the pressure is too much or goes unnoticed? I see it, I acknowledge the weight and sacrifice. A lot of the time, I believe, humans just need a little validation; a reminder that they matter and their efforts mean something. I've seen that the people with the biggest hearts suffer the most, out of protection for others and unfortunately put their quality of life on the backburner. I remind my clients of the beauty of their own heart, their innate potential, and the power of self worth. We have one life to live, why not truly live it.

I am passionate about the impact of addiction and trauma on individuals and families, and specialize in helping those struggling with chronic relapse, especially when the traditional treatment models (30 days in residential rehab, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient) haven't helped in the past. The goal of therapy is to achieve sobriety, but more importantly to heal the relationships of the harms caused by years of addictive behavior. My aim is to make your counseling experience as fulfilling and meaningful as possible by creating a customized treatment plan that leads to real, tangible results.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
