I am currently only accepting daytime, in person clients...Are you feeling like nothing in your life is familiar anymore? Are you wanting to dig a little deeper into your unhealthy patterns or cycles? We all go through times, when we need to reinvent ourselves and reclaim our identity. Falling into the same patterns can be a barrier to reclaiming your identity. So whether you are transitioning through a difficult period or looking to gain insight into a current situation, I want to be there for you.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out to a stranger for help. You hope that person will walk alongside you, safely helping you sort through your burdens to help you develop a clearer view of what is weighing heavily on your shoulders. My goal is to work with you in a compassionate way, without judgment, in a safe and relaxing environment to help tailor your treatment and guide you in achieving your goals as you move toward a more peaceful and happy life.

Managing life experiences and emotions can be difficult. Our daily lives, whether it be work, school or family are opportunities to connect, learn and grow. Do you know how to make the most of these experiences?

You're a professional or even maybe a therapist yourself, looking for an experienced trauma therapist to see in-person. You want to be able to reflect on your recent or past trauma with acceptance or at least not break out in tears or anger when your past is triggered. Since the trauma, you might find yourself replaying what happened instead of sleeping. You might be irritated by things that didn't bother you before or have feelings of panic or depression that prevent you from being yourself. You don't only want coping strategies, you want to address the route of your symptoms.

As we move through life, we are faced with many challenges. Often times we do not possess the necessary tools to manage life stressors. We have collectively seen what crisis can do to someone's mental and emotional well being. This year alone has put a spotlight on the need to take care of your mental health. It has solidified for me why mental health and black mental health matters.

One of the few constants in life is change. If you are in a period of transition you may be feeling confused, anxious, or depressed, and alone with your struggles. Times of transition may include: Divorce, educational or career changes, changing stages in our children's or parent's lives, tackling addictions, issues of grief and/or loss. Transitions, while challenging and often stressful, with good professional support can be opportunities for true personal growth and transformation. I offer a compassionate, non-judgmental and confidential place for us to explore together how best to help you to feeling better.

An ideal client for my practice will be someone older than 30 y/o who is dealing with anxiety, depression and any trauma related issues (mistrust, PTSD, somatic complaints, nightmares, sexual dysfunction, low self-esteem just to mention a few). Potential clients should be committed to change as they have realized that avoidance has not gotten them anywhere. This person values the therapeutic relationship, is looking for someone that not only listen but also and most importantly, helps them to overcome their problems in a collaborative effort. Recognizing the importance of the mind-body connection in the healing process is a plus.

I have many years of experience in trauma work with individuals, couples children and families, utilizing research-supported methods.
Life involves constant changes, and is not always easy. Change is necessary for growth, but can cause confusion and discomfort, which may impair our ability to move towards the fulfilling lives we envision. Feelings of hopelessness and isolation often lead to unhelpful means of coping, which create a new set of problems. No matter what your struggle, you don't have to do this alone. I believe that a supportive, therapeutic relationship, with you in the driver's seat, can provide clarity and direction. My person-centered approach can help you feel more secure as you navigate your own path. I look forward to walking it with you.

You deserve to be happy. You deserve to have fulfilling and authentic relationships. Seeking therapy is the first step to healing so you can live your life to the fullest. And I thank you for considering me to be a part of your journey. So many factors in life can lead us to feeling unfulfilled in our lives and/or our relationships. Life transitions, relational challenges, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, work stress, traumatic experiences, multi generational cycles and not to mention the inevitable curve balls life throws at us. These are just a few of the many factors that impact every single one of us.

I understand that 'alcohol and other drugs'...(cocaine, marijuana, opiates/painkillers, etc.) as well as relationships, money, food, work, technology, sex, etc. are merely dysfunctional band-aids to avoid the pain of inner woundedness. My therapeutic approach offers a deeper awareness of symptomatic addictions by providing the client with the 'space' and permission to explore the self-damage from these harmful 'toxins' and then learn the practice of thought and feeling detoxification. I can support my clients with 20+ years of relapse prevention therapy and techniques to replace the obsessive thinking with positive and self-affirming behaviors.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
