I help children, adolescents, adults, families reduce stress, resolve crisis, & integrate trauma/grief using a strength-based, supportive relationship and evidence-based practices (play/expressive therapy, EMDR, Mind Body Medicine, trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems).
Do you feel afraid, worried, alone, helpless? Are you constantly reminded of a painful or terrifying experience that has interrupted your life and shattered your sense of trust, safety, and control? Are your circumstances so overwhelming you cannot cope and feel that no one will understand? Maybe you are experiencing a challenging life transition or health concern, and you need support for yourself, your child, or your family. No matter what trauma, loss, or life transition you are facing, THERE IS HOPE. You CAN resolve the problem, heal the pain, find peace and experience the GIFT of wellness.

Making a choice to embark on a journey towards healing takes courage. Talking to someone about infidelity, sex, and addiction takes even more. These topics can cause isolation, shame, and hopelessness, whether it's love and relationship issues, infidelity, pornography addictions, or sexually compulsive behaviors. Additionally, partners, spouses, or family members may experience trauma, grief, or isolation caused by these behaviors. There is hope and a path that can lead to a healthy and fulfilling life, leading to inner peace and understanding.

Being a woman with ADHD is lonely and confusing, and at times, it can be embarrassing- especially when you're trying to explain it to someone who doesn't get it. You may feel chronically overwhelmed, have trouble with time management and organization, have problems focusing on tasks that are boring or routine in nature, have sensory issues that affect your ability to focus, or feel like you just can't get your life together. As a therapist with ADHD, I get it. Therapy can provide support and guidance, tools for emotional regulation, and a better understanding of subconscious beliefs that perpetuate shame and keep you stuck.

My ideal client is one with high stress intense jobs (veterans, law enforcement) and those who have had traumatic and abusive pasts or are in crisis now. I love to see couples and work through relationship issues. I desire to use my innate capacity for authentic empathy to enter into another's pain, listen to their story, help them understand themselves better, find identity, and ultimately find meaning and purpose amidst suffering and struggle.

I have been in the helping field for over fifteen years. I work with children, adolescents, couples, & families.Working with all of these age groups has helped me to have a better worldview of how issues affect us throughout different stages of our lives. My approach is cognitive behavioral therapy with family systems, but I also believe that an integrated approach alows us to use the events that have hurt us over the years to actually strengthen us today. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
