I have worked in the “helping” field for over 20 years, from Adolescent Residential support, Foster Care, Career Counseling with Job Corps and in Community Based Counseling service (in the homes and school systems). I am humbled by the gift I have been given to support you on your journey to a life of peace, balanced with excitement, love and understanding. My function in your life is simply to turn on the light so that you can see your way clear as you navigate into the life you are destined to live.

Struggling with anxiety can be all-consuming. It's easy to lose sight of your inner strengths and resources. My role is to help you discover the capacity you already have and move beyond the limits that anxiety has placed on your life. You can learn to both decrease your anxiety and depression and increase your quality of life, This shift in perspective is extremely powerful, yet it's just the starting point in understanding and insight into emotional and mental health problems. The aim is to find resolution, acceptance and peace and to prevent the exasperation and development of more serious mental health issues.

Robin Rukin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia who has been practicing since 1998. She has a B. S in Psychology from Old Dominion University and an MS. Ed. in Counseling from Old Dominion University. Robin has experience with different populations treating developmental disabilities, has the ability to guide individuals towards meeting their goals, and incorporates client interests (music, poetry, writing) into the therapeutic process. Outside of work, Robin enjoys cooking, listening to music, supporting animal rescues, and spending time with family.

I work well individually with adults or children/adolescents, as well as families and couples. I also enjoy working with the LGBTQIA population immensely. I aim to create an environment that radiates safety, security, acceptance and fosters growth. I try to use an integrative approach based on the needs of my clients who have experienced different trauma from sexual/physical abuse, family conflict, grief and many others. We are all individuals living a human experience while trying to exist in a system or number of systems. I have a deep sense of empathy, compassion and sensitivity of anyone dealing with mental health challenges.

I enjoy working with clients who are dealing with life changes and transitions. I like to show people different ways of thinking about their issues. I have a number of ways to help people to get in touch with their feelings and to change the way they respond to situations and handle conflict in relationships. I help them to find ways to compromise, use the energy that comes from strong feelings, and to slow down their reactivity before they do harm to others. I deal with grief, anger, pain, loss, depression, and anxiety. I provide a safe place for clients.
