Nearly 2 years ago, my eldest child shared that she is transgender. I initially had no idea what to do. I was scared, and confused, even ashamed and guilty. I am a pediatrician who has worked with suicidal youth and understand the consequences of parental rejection, but I still struggled with my child's gender. Today, I know better. My child comes first and so does yours. I help parents love, accept, understand, and support their LGBTQ+ children so they can thrive and live out loud without judgment or limitations. I have been working with kids, teens, adults and families in some role for over 30 years. Having worked as direct care staff while in grad-school, church staff, teaching, and as a therapist, I have had many opportunities to help individuals and families to build on their strengths, and overcome their weaknesses. In addition to my work, I am a parent. In fact I have been a parent in a wonderfully blended family where I have had the privilege to parent 21 children.

Making the decision to get counseling for your relationship, your self, or teen is one of the hardest things to do. It's even more challenging to find someone you can relate to, and who has the expertise to really help you. At my practice, you're not just another client. I use a Narrative and Solution-Focused approach with clients in order to help them become more aware of themselves, focus more on their own processing, and to develop individualized coping strategies. We will work as a team to set goals and tackle each issue that is brought to session. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives, and will have a better understanding of themselves than anyone else. This can help you develop more resources to make better decisions, and therefore reach your goals in life.
