Nearly 2 years ago, my eldest child shared that she is transgender. I initially had no idea what to do. I was scared, and confused, even ashamed and guilty. I am a pediatrician who has worked with suicidal youth and understand the consequences of parental rejection, but I still struggled with my child's gender. Today, I know better.
