I am passionate about working with adolescents and young adults struggling with eating disorders, body image distress, addiction, personality disorders, self-harm, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
One of the hardest things to do is acknowledge that you are worthy of recovery. I want you to know that healing is possible and I hope to be by your side every step of the way. I am committed to helping you identify and navigate your feelings, find healthier coping skills, and learn how to have hope again. Pain is real, but so is hope.

I offer individual psychotherapy to adults and young adults, including but not not limited to: business executives, medical and law professionals, work-from-home/stay-at-homecaregivers, and students. I also offer support to parents and caregivers of loved ones with mental health concerns.

Many people with eating disorders have a history of traumatic experiences, but I also believe that the eating disorder is a traumatic experience itself. When we treat eating disorders, we are treating trauma. People with eating disorders are often very accomplished because they are so hard-working and caring, but I always find myself wondering, what more could their life hold for them in recovery? How much more could they enjoy their accomplishments and their lives? In addition to working with patients individually, I specialize in family based treatment, which helps families learn to support their loved ones' recovery at home.

While my primary specialty is Eating Disorders, I also help individuals better cope with anxiety, manage life transitions, and develop a healthier sense of self.
Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, you are unable to see yourself as more than a body? That diet culture is so deeply engrained in our society that it feels impossible to escape? You are not alone. We live in a world that has convinced us that pursuing an unrealistic thin ideal is the key to happiness. That if we "work hard enough," that void we constantly feel, will eventually go away. That's why my goal is to help you reach a place of acceptance so that you can experience a more fulfilling life, free from diet culture and the toxicity that ensues.

Eating disorders are complicated, and I do not follow a "one-size-fits-all" approach to treatment.
Maybe you are dealing with new issues, or maybe you have been struggling for a while. Reaching out for help takes courage, and I understand that taking that first step can be daunting. Let's talk and see how we can work together to get you to feeling like yourself again. Each individual has a unique story, and through our work, we will discover what is currently keeping you feeling "stuck." In order to change your unwanted behaviors, we must first uncover what is driving these behaviors. The answer might feel obvious to you, or you might feel completely unsure. No matter the case, we will work together to create sustainable change.

I specialize in working with young adults who struggle with life transitions, relationships, work/life stress, mood concerns, body image concerns, disordered eating, and/or eating disorders.
Adulthood can generally mean transitions, complex relationships, self-doubt, and uncertainty. Unfortunately, nobody told us how to navigate all of this and it can feel really challenging to balance all of the responsibilities. If things in your life feel really overwhelming or you notice that your life feels stagnant and you want to keep growing, you don’t have to go through it alone. I meet you where you’re at and we work to add tools to your toolbox in a safe and non-judgmental space. I want to work with you to help you discover a peaceful relationship with yourself.

When we fall into the pits of depression, anxiety, confusion, self-doubt, ruminations and bad memories...we don't feel whole. The day-to-day can feel impossible and overwhelming, let alone handling what is happening deep inside. Many of my clients struggle with current-day consequences of many years of trauma, which can show up in a number of different ways- disordered eating and eating disorders, complex PTSD, and postpartum issues.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
