Because I have an eclectic set of tools in my toolbox, we work together to find the intervention that works best for you.
In order to recover, you need to know what you are recovering from. As a person in recovery myself, I have both personal and professional experience to help those desiring help with untreated addiction and/or unresolved trauma. My work with co-occurring disorders including mental health, substance abuse and trauma started in a hospital on the Dual Diagnosis unit then grew into working as a trauma therapist and from there, working as both a residential and IOP therapist at a treatment center for chemical dependency and eating disorders. Being in recovery gives me the insight and perspective in which to help you with your journey.

I offer early intervention therapy, individual counseling/therapy, group/family therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Social Skills Training, and ABA services.
Dr. Walsh has been caring for infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and families for more than a decade. Creating nurturing environments for kids to thrive involves both science and art and is increasingly difficult in today's evolving landscape of academic, social, and technological pressures experienced by both kids and caregivers alike. I aim to provide state-of-the-science psychological evaluation and deliver individualized treatment to promote psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral well-being. Please note: Contacting Dr. Walsh does not establish a therapist-patient relationship. If this is an emergency, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

I believe that intervention is one of the most effective ways to help someone suffering from alcoholism, substance abuse, eating disorders or other process addictions, such as gambling, internet, or sex addiction. I have been fortunate to have an amazing success rate and, in certain circumstances, will refund fees if the intervention is unsuccessful after a level III family meeting. Intervention is necessary in cases of addictive behaviors because the addiction cannot survive without denial and delusion of the consequences of the individual's actions and behaviors. It is a life changing, life affirming event for all concerned.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
