Life challenges can become struggles. Normal transitions, like a job change or an “empty nest” can be daunting--maybe even overwhelming. Big issues, like relationship stress, illness, divorce, job loss, losing someone close, can weigh heavily, steal our energy, derail us. You may suffer from depression, anxiety, or other difficulties. For struggles with food and body issues, or distressing habits, I would love to help you with these challenges, as well. Accepting new clients; teletherapy appts available.

My areas of interest include PTSD, codependency, domestic abuse and relationship issues, stress and anxiety disorders, depression and grief, sleep disorders, spirituality, and life transitions.
We have the inner wisdom needed to reach our highest potential. I work with the whole person, body, mind, spirit, in the context of individual experience, family, and community. Clients may withdraw or use substances as a response to trauma, experiencing addiction, depression or anxiety, as a coping mechanism. Clients are the experts of their own experience, and I facilitate the process of change to meet their needs more effectively. Through collaborative work with varied theoretical approaches, I meet clients where they are, develop goals and work through the process of small steps to make changes that shift the outcomes.

I have experience working with a diverse range of clients and have worked extensively with adults specializing in issues relating to long-term, low-grade anxiety and depression, isolation, relationship dynamics, self-esteem and grief.
Hello, I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who supports my clients in discovering and achieving what they most want in life. As we begin to look more deeply at who we are, we can move toward a life that has increased balance and fulfillment. Many of us suffer in our relationships, careers and internal worlds due to a lack of awareness of the ways in which our past wounds impact current choices and ways of interacting with others. By taking a deeper look at these processes, problematic belief systems can begin to change.

There can be healing from past trauma and grief and you can have a sense of safety at last.
Getting to the heart of intense emotions and changing the status quo can be frightening. Yet, so is the idea of remaining in a place that is no longer sustainable. You know it’s time to stop trying to fill that void with what is no longer working. It can be very difficult to step out of expectations and into your authentic self. The decision to seek professional therapy and create movement in your life says you are ready. Anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors and negative relationship patterns can become so overwhelming that we feel distrust in everything, especially ourselves.

I enjoy working with adults exploring relationships, family of origin concerns, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress (and growth), grief and loss, and transitions. Each client may seek therapy for different reasons, often because something in their lives has become uncomfortable, unhealthy, unsustainable, intolerable – but each client is so much more than their problem. I've worked with everyone from high school dropouts to combat veterans to long term care residents, and everyone in between ... In every one I see another facet of the best of what it means to be human, and I love to show up and see what we learn together.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
