Practicing in Colorado and California. After more than 50 years in a variety of capacities in the mental health field. I enjoy working with just about anyone that comes through my door. I am always amazed and honored by the wide variety of individuals that enter my office. My strengths are working with adolescents, adults, and couples with all kinds of issues and concerns. I have a long history of working with men covering a wide array of concerns. An important focus of my work over the past 40 years has been work with intimate partners and couples in which one or both are survivors of trauma/abuse.

Changes in relationships, starting a family, navigating a breakup, leaving for college, changing careers, or unexpected situations, to name a few- could elicit discomfort that makes us feel stuck, anxious, and/or depressed. Navigating life might feel difficult due to the uncertainties but we do not have to continue to feel this way. I firmly believe everyone has the tools within them to survive, thrive, process, and grow. Together, we will discover these tools, find tangible ways to achieve your goals, and gain clarity about the unknown while exploring your strengths and building resiliency toward healing and empowerment.

We all have challenging days and moments when we are not feeling at our best. Changing your thoughts and outlook helps change your feelings too! It is important to find the right fit in your therapy relationship; I approach sessions from a solution focused perspective and incorporate a CBT model to assist in changing self-defeating patterns of thought.

Although we live in an individualistic society, each individual, with their unique personality and life purpose brings something extraordinary to the table of life. Each one of us is part of a bigger collective and we are responsible for constantly striving to mature and progress on an emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual level. As a result of these beliefs, I utilize a humanistic approach (striving to help people uncover, address, reprocess, and heal from their trauma to meet their highest protentional); while seeing healing through a holistic lens (working to help individuals heal by reconnecting mind, body and spirit).

EMDR-trained Therapist. Life is hard. It can be filled with transitions, challenges, anxieties, grief, depression, a past that just doesn't seem to leave you alone - just to name a few. As a therapist, I see it as my role to come alongside you and be with you as you navigate life's challenges, with the goal of living an authentic, fulfilling life marked by joy. I see clients all over Ohio and California!

As a father, husband, son, brother, friend, colleague, and working professional, balancing life can seem like an insurmountable task. There are days I feel insufficient, inadequate, guilty, as if I could have done more…or less. There are times I feel like an imposter, like I don’t deserve the things that come my way. I ruminate. I overthink. And I wrestle with negative judgments and lowered self-esteem. If these issues sound like you, you’re not alone. My intention or hope is that through this process you start to feel seen, heard, adequate, and as if you deserve what you’ve earned.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
