I am passionate about helping clients engage their stories in a way that leads to a better understanding of who they are. As a Christian Counselor, I seek to create a compassionate space for you to express your fears, hurts or stressors while combating the shame that often compels us to hide. My role is to guide, encourage, and challenge you as you move towards growth. I also believe not all counseling is about change. Sometimes, circumstances outside of your control lead to a hard season of life. In these instances, I seek to empathize, listen and identify the truths and values that help us feel a sense of calm in a chaotic world.

Welcome everyone; I am excited to meet you! Life can throw us all kinds of curve balls and sometimes we struggle to manage its many difficulties. You are not alone. Though we cannot control what happens to us, we can decide how we will react to it. With the proper support and guidance, life's struggles become a bit more manageable. “Mental health is not a destination but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.” I look forward to walking alongside you through all walks of life, encouraging you to become the best version of yourself.

As a trans, queer, and neurodivergent individual, I understand how difficult it is to navigate challenges related to gender, sexuality, and identity in general. I am passionate about serving anyone who may have been marginalized for who they are and how they exist in the world. I am skilled in issues related to LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those with a background of spiritual or religious trauma. I particularly enjoy working with young adults and college students on their journeys to develop a sense of self. I hope to support and advocate for my clients as we work to create spaces that are more inclusive and welcoming to all.

No one in life is perfect, including me! Being able to identify, relate and empathize with you as my patient is probably one of my greatest strengths. The special relationship formed between you and I, ensuring trust, confidence, and ability to truly work through the issues are of utmost importance. I believe everyone has something to work through in their lives. By providing evidence based therapy and unconditional positive regard, I have been very effective in my treatment history and am open to us having a two way therapeutic relationship with feedback and growth through this process.

You’re meant for something more. Maybe your past is holding your back, or you feel like something is missing but you aren’t sure what. Many of us find that previous experiences get in the way of a full and meaningful life. Maybe your struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, or challenging relationships has interfered with knowing and living into your purpose. If this sounds like you, I’d like to help. I can guide you as you heal, learning to trust yourself. We will draw upon your strengths, including your spirituality and inner wisdom, so you can be kind to yourself and present for your meaningful life.

My cousin was one of my best friends. She was bigger than life. At age 20, she left this earth, but never my heart. On her tombstone is part of her poem: "Let's think big thoughts and dream together." I offer this to all who have lost someone, who grieve for what could have been, who want something new and more colorful after the darkness of sadness.

The most profound force is a person’s ability to heal. Life can deal its chaos and turmoil to anyone, but I believe that we are all on our own path toward wholeness. When we lose ourselves for a time, problems such as anxiety, depression, or addiction may arise. My priorities as a therapist are to be a collaborator and guide to nurture the growth and healing that is already occurring in you. I strive to bring a relational style to the therapeutic process knowing that it is sacred–yet potentially painful and intimidating–to ‘bear one’s soul’ to another. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and seek to create a warm and welcoming space for all.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
