The emphasis of my clinical work is in pediatric assessments including neuropsychological evaluations. I specialize in providing individually-tailored, extensive examinations of symptoms, development, and functioning in order to better understand each child or adolescent. Thus, the goal is not to arrive at a standardized diagnosis, but to achieve a deeper insight into each person's distinct biopsychosocial makeup. The most enjoyable aspect of assessment work is being able to provide children and families with clarifying "ah ha" moments, in order to help them make better sense and successes of their lives.

You are the expert on your life and your own experiences. Together, we will create space for you to heal. Although at times you may feel broken, you aren’t in need of fixing; you are navigating systems that are unsatisfactory, which can leave anyone feeling fragmented. Support is the driving factor for change, and I aim to support you through whatever changes present themselves on your path to feeling whole. My clients begin to feel a sense of wholeness that comes from accepting their thoughts and feelings as valid parts of a human experience. These moments of connection in therapy extend into relationships with others and yourself.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I often see folks when they are going through an adjustment period. Maybe they're heading into middle school or college, or they are an adult who has their firstborn leaving the nest. I see clients who are reaching mid-life with unanswered questions and couples who are finding that one or both of them have changed. Many are feeling lingering effects from the pandemic and the global issues that we face. During these transition times, finding support, new strategies and tools can be helpful.

This heightened compassion is your super power! It is the source of your creativity, your passion, and your intuition! But in our culture, it can often be met with criticism leading us to feel as though we don’t belong. We learn to push away our emotions to gain acceptance only to feel more isolated. My clients want to step out of conditioning based in shame, patriarchy, and trauma and learn to trust their gifts, emotions, and intuition!

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
