I have experience in working with children and adolescents with ADHD, anxiety, peer and parent difficulties, trauma, grief, and loss.
What we experience changes how we see the world and our place in it. Through the painful and difficult times, I come alongside you and help you navigate through, so you grow and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. I help you to identify specific triggers and process emotions while guiding you to learn new ways to achieve your goals. My purpose is to help you feel supported as we work together to identify and address the underlying causes of concern.

Support comes in many forms and fashions from people we love. Sometimes people need someone outside of their circle to speak to and get professional help. I am an experienced licensed clinical professional counselor. I have helped many overcome the difficulties that life brings and helped them to learn to thrive despite mental health challenges. Therapy can empower you to set boundaries, grow & change, motivate you to action and improve overall mood and mental health. It can also help you learn coping skills, reduce stress, reduce anxiety, learn triggers, self improvement, repair relationships and much more. I can help with that.

I specialize in working with adults and adolescents of color, LGBTQ+, and individuals confronted with a range of life challenges from depression, anxiety, bipolar, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, and substance abuse.
When people feel isolated or alone in their situation, they need someone else to help them gain a new perspective, feel differently, or at times escape the state at hand. My philosophy is to view therapy as if it were a "tune up" to help people keep operating through life. Just like cars need regular tune ups and oil changes to keep running smoothly, people also need regular check-ins and support for internal issues. This is especially important for people of color and minority populations because they face additional societal challenges (including microaggressions) that may or may not be overt but are often painful.

I assist individuals of all ages in overcoming symptoms related to OCD, anxiety, perinatal stressors, depression, major life transitions, and other mental health concerns.
It takes a great amount of strength and courage to reach out and ask for help, or even explore that option. We can all use extra support at times throughout our life, whether we are experiencing high levels of stress, symptoms, or have been going through major adjustments in life. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor who believes therapy is a collaborative relationship that assists individuals in building their tool box, instills hope, and helps them overcome obstacles that create difficulty in their life.

I look forward to working with you on making and taking the choices and actions that move you towards building a life filled with meaning based on your values and goals. The struggles we all face, large and small, are part of what define our humanity - be it anxiety, trauma, or confusion. It is the compassion and willingness for intimacy we show to ourselves and others that defines much of the rest. I enjoy working with my clients as they go through the process of defining who and what they want to be and then help them go about achieving it.

Traumas, big or small, often cause depression, anxiety, strained relationships, occupational & academic obstacles, which interfere with achieving life goals.
"Making that first appointment, and asking for help, truly takes courage and is the first step to new beginnings." I believe that providing a safe and supportive space, combined with therapeutic collaboration, facilitates change. I utilize an eclectic approach and believe in using evidence based treatments, tailored for each unique individual, their specific needs, and desired goals. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families who are ready and motivated toward change, however, just aren't sure how to get there. Once given the proper tools and skills, options appear and the ability to choose a better path presents itself.

Are you tired of facing your problems alone, yet feeling uncertain about discussing them with a stranger? Are you feeling trapped in your anxious and depressive thoughts, but feeling too embarrassed to talk, but also too desperate NOT to? For most people, finding a therapist IS very anxiety provoking. They are afraid of being judged and of the unknown. So allow me to first applaud your courage and wisdom for taking action! To help my clients feel accepted and motivated, my approach is warm, casual, and collaborative. My focus is always on emphasizing the strengths, NOT on what "disorders" you might have.

Whether your goals are to manage your anxiety, regain emotional balance, gain self confidence, have better relationships, or gain tools to cope better in your day to day, I look forward to collaborating with you on your journey.
Many of us reach a point where we feel stuck in our lives or our relationships. We realize that what we have done in the past to manage stress, to cope, to heal, to move forward is no longer working the way it used to and we need new strategies. As an individual and family therapist who has worked for 6+ years in two diverse metropolitan areas (New York and Chicago), my work has focused on family relationships, identity exploration, adult and adolescent mental health issues, parenting, social skills, grief, loss, and other life traumas.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
