I see counseling as a process in which you the client, and I having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I focus on clients with general mood disorders, addiction/ substance use and vocational issues. Working to help clients understand and identify their own strengths and incorporating coping skills. Helping them to exemplify their strengths while processing aspects of the past to create an understand their present and future.

I have provided therapy for both children and adults and can honestly say I enjoy working with all ages in various stages of life. I believe that anyone can gain knowledge through their experience in an optimistic way in a warm, supportive, therapeutic environment. When facing challenges and struggles, you do not need to feel alone; it can be very advantageous to have someone by your side who is nonjudgmental, understanding, and compassionate. Taking the opportunity to seek out help is not a sign of weakness; it is an admirable attempt to try to live a more fulfilling life for yourself and demonstrate a great deal of strength!

I have the knowledge, wisdom, experience and professionalism to help you with your problems. Ask yourself what will it take to lessen the pain you are experiencing. I can help! Now, ask yourself what makes you feel alive, content and happy? Recognize that working together we can change your desires into realities. I approach psycho-therapeutic counseling in a holistic fashion. I have great successes in assisting patients to cope with anxiety and depression, the traumas of abuse, teen-age cutters, divorce, death/loss, self-injury and debilitating physical injuries. My style of psychotherapy is more than just emotional support.

Hiii! I'm Kimberly! I am the Purpose Pusha'! Take a minute to imagine every dream you've wanted to come to life stolen from you by your past. That's truly heartbreaking, right? Now it's your time to take it back. Your past childhood trauma, current depression/anxiety or even your substance use doesn't define your future nor who you are but here's what your healing process will look like a little laughter, some tears, and discovering a new authentic you. My clients describe me as compassionate, personable, and authentic. Some even say G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) but I'm not bragging.

**Evening and weekend appointments available.** Are you wondering if you need therapy? Some people think you need to be in a crisis or have experienced a traumatic event to seek therapy or counseling -- not true! Most often daily living can create enough internal stress that our little inner voice keeps asking “maybe life could be better, if only…”. Listen to that little voice inside you, then call me to help! The decision to seek help can be difficult the first time, and finding the right therapist can be challenging too, but don’t let that stop you from making the most rewarding and beneficial decision you’ll ever make.

knowing where to begin when seeking help can be tough. If you wonder if you are in the right place to get help, here are 8 examples, you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, you cannot escape asking why this happened to you, you have done everything you know to do, you are consumed during the day and lie awake at night fighting fears, discomfort, and pain, you struggle to articulate/deny feelings of guilt and shame, you feel inadequate and different, you seek to find or realign with your purpose, at times, your life does not feel worthy of living.

So many things can pull us away from feeling fully alive and from having meaningful relationships, to ourselves and to others. I enjoy helping people strengthen their belief in themselves and become less alienated. Therapy with me is about bringing awareness to behavior and thought patterns that no longer serve you. Without recognition of these patterns it is impossible to make a conscious decision to be/do something new. You never know what's possible when you bring energy and imagination to the parts of your self that need attention.

I have had the opportunity to work in the medical profession prior to my working as a therpaist. I worked as a nurse in many disciplines and particularly psychiatry, learning how to treat mental health issues at the extreme of the mental health disorders. I am now working as an independent therpist and have worked primarily in the field of chemical dependency treatment and am presently treating clients in my private practice with diagnoses of chemical dependency, anxiety, depression, and other issues with mental health. I prefer to work collaratively with clients where we, together develop a plan of care for the client's goals.

Are you feeling unmotivated or controlled by fear, worry or doubt? Numerous things trigger our emotions that are painful, confusing, or difficult to navigate and leave us feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed. Negative thought processes and limiting beliefs are then created. They can be easier to ignore, however over time, they impact our thoughts and behaviors in unhealthy, unproductive ways. But you are reading this because you know there's a better way. You want to feel happier, confident, more motivated. It isn't until you decide to identify emotions and thoughts that you will feel empowered, content, and joyful.

Welcome! I have 10+ years of experience working as a psychotherapist and tend to focus on childhood trauma, self-acceptance, and the idea that most of our well-being comes from within ourselves. I treat most mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, substance abuse and relationship conflict. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be the most healing part of therapy and tend to use that as a guide.

Oftentimes we find ourselves struggling to break from long-standing patterns that force us to be rigid in the ways we relate to the world around us and the world within in us. These patterns, which seek consistent expression in our daily lives inhibit us from experiencing true presence during the most precious moments of our existence while hindering our pursuit of success. I work with individuals, couples, and families who seek to free themselves from these damaging patterns so that a more flexible, authentic way of relating to the world can emerge.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
