I am a generalist practitioner, helping people facing difficulties including depression, perinatal mental health issues, grief/loss, anxiety, life transitions, acculturation struggles, adjustment to medical problems, stress management, relationship difficulty, self-esteem issues, trauma, marital/premarital counseling, and family conflict.
Modern living can be filled with joys and opportunities, as well as burdens and stressors. Some people face barriers that interfere with achieving goals and pursuing the lives they want. Some have lost their internal compass and struggle to move forward in the face of loss or struggles with mental illness. My goal as a clinician is to help my clients live fuller, healthier, and more meaningful lives through helping them cope with their challenges and find ways to access their internal strengths.

I specialize in trauma and maternal mental health, including pregnancy loss and infertility.
Life in NYC is filled with demands and stressors, both at work and at home. Balancing all that is required is overwhelming. Yet the distress you feel today does not need to be your new normal, there is hope! I believe that each person is resilient, with the capacity to build connection and heal. I work with adults experiencing anxiety and depression, grief and loss, job stress and trauma. In our sessions, I will be an active, curious listener. I will approach our work together with warmth, humor and empathy, while integrating evidence-based practices to meet your needs.

I also specialize in work around reproductive, perinatal, and postpartum mental health, as well as dyadic, Parent-Child Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy with couples.
As a psychodynamic therapist, I hold that exploring our motivations, inner conflicts and personal histories in a safe context can mobilize greater self-awareness, flexibility, and changes to problematic or painful modes of relating to ourselves and to others. I aim to foster a collaborative and responsive therapeutic environment informed by the specific needs and goals of each of my patients. I take a strengths-based approach and work to scaffold and reinforce the resources that each client brings with them.

My practice focuses on fertility / pregnancy / postpartum (incl. new dads & LGBTQ families), grief (more specifically early mother loss, and pregnancy loss), and relationship issues. Throughout our lives, we're constantly relating to one another, and building new experiences from these relationships. Unfortunately, relationships can also often feel unfulfilling, or make us feel neglected somehow. They can bring on feelings of loss and disconnection. Then, life in general starts to feel unfulfilling. This can be changed. Psychotherapy, where the fit between patient / therapist is right, can be an immensely powerful tool.

Areas of subspecialty include, but are not limited to, reproductive health (infertility, pregnancy, postpartum adjustment and depression), contemporary family-making (same-sex parenting, single-parenting by choice, adoption and choosing to be child-free).
Are you wondering if it's possible to experience more satisfaction in your life? Have you noticed repetitive, self-defeating patterns hindering success in relationships or at work? Are you struggling with depression or anxiety? Unsure of exactly what you want for yourself? Considering therapy is the first step toward feeling better and finding fulfillment. In more than twenty-five years of practice, the transformative power of psychotherapy still impresses me. I view therapy as collaboration. Together, we will deepen your capacity for self-reflection, remove obstacles blocking you from reaching your full potential, and to finding your authentic self.

Experiencing fertility challenges and pregnancy loss is an overwhelming and isolating experience. Feelings such as grief and loss, frustration, and hopelessness can complicate all aspects of one's life. Navigating these specific challenges is overwhelming and answers can be hard to find.

I also specialize in perinatal mental health and support individuals encountering challenges in their reproductive journey from pregnancy through the postpartum period and the transition to parenthood.
There are times we find ourselves struggling and straying further away from the life we want. We’re juggling daily demands, roles, and relationships, while just trying to keep it together. We begin to recognize that old ways of coping aren’t working anymore. Although painful and uncomfortable, this awareness is where growth and healing begins. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for you to freely explore and be curious about what has brought you here. We will work on deepening awareness, building skills, and making meaningful change that aligns with your values and goals - a therapy that enlightens and empowers.

We all go through challenging times in our lives no matter how old we are. Some people choose to deal with those challenges on their own and some make the choice to share their thoughts, concerns, pain, anger, frustrations with someone who can help them go through resolution of their conflicts. Being in treatment can change profoundly someone’s life only if one wishes and wants to do that.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
