People often seek out therapy when they are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or alone. These feelings may cause symptoms of anxiety, depression, difficulty managing anger, or dependance on food or substances to cope. As a therapist I enjoy creating a relationship that is warm, consistent, caring and safe to explore difficult feelings or experiences while figuring out what symptoms like anxiety, or depression are trying to tell us. Having someone who understands the way you think and feel can be truly transformative. This process can lead to the rediscovery of your own innate constructive forces, bringing relief and much needed change.

I work with struggling individuals, families, and couples. Being a therapist is not for the faint of heart, yet I find that helping others improve their lives is my calling. I enjoy being that person my clients talk to about anything. My clients enjoy the judgement free zone that therapy with me entails. My approach to psychotherapy is that no matter where you’re starting from, change is possible! Change can cause uncertainty, anxiety, and confusion for many. I help my clients find the courage to start on their road to positive transformation.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or lost? Maybe you feel unfulfilled in your relationships, career, or other key areas of your life. If you are ready to explore these parts of yourself and interrupt patterns that are no longer serving you, then it may be time to engage in psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process which allows us to look at the areas that are causing distress, and identify ways to adjust your thoughts and behaviors to create positive change. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and authentically.

The style of treatment I offer is very inter-active utilizing the realities of the "here and now" situations of life within the therapy relationship. I am goal oriented and focus on what the client comes in to work on. Although analytically trained I use a broad range of eclectic approaches best suited for the problems brought in. I maintain a safe place to deal with hard to talk about matters in the most open and confidential manner. Please review my website @ ThomasJohnsonlcsw.com

My core philosophy is that therapy is not reserved for those who cannot help themselves; rather, it is a powerful tool for those who actively seek self-improvement. I firmly believe that you are the ultimate authority on your own life. I focus on building genuine and collaborative relationships, where I tap into your innate creativity, insights, and resilience to cultivate healthy coping mechanisms, facilitating personal growth and healing. Within this safe and supportive space I encourage you to embrace discomfort on the path toward genuine empowerment; helping you shift from reacting to life to actively responding to it.

I utilize cognitive behavioral (CBT) & psychodynamic therapies to help clients navigate life transitions, improve their relationship with themselves, improve their confidence, and decrease relationship anxieties.
Are you having a hard time distinguishing between what you want and what others want for you? Does your relationship with your parents affect your adult decision making in a way that feels a bit too much? Is the timeline you created for yourself earlier in life not exactly panning out the way you thought it might? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you’re not alone. I’ve created a therapy space for my clients in which the confusion of your mid-20’s to early 30’s doesn’t have to feel so ambiguous, and establishing healthy boundaries feels possible.

I work with people struggling with life transitions, overwhelming emotions, and feeling stuck with where they are. My clients often find themselves disconnected from family and friends due to fear that they won’t be understood. Some have dealt with years of anxiety, depression, and trauma, making it difficult to imagine feeling better. Whatever you are going through, you don’t have to do it alone. Our work can help with finding your way through challenging times with greater appreciation of your own innate strength and a newfound perspective of what it means to create a life that is fulfilling and worth living.

Whether it is family, relationship, anxiety, or identity issues, I work to create a safe space where clients are able to re-discover, accept, and evolve into their fulfilled and authentic selves.
Many people experience loneliness and difficulty finding and prioritizing themselves. They struggle to explore parts of aspiration due to guilt, shame, and fear. This doesn’t have to be you. If you are struggling with finding your value and your voice, then this is the space for you. Allow yourself to see the strength in who you are and how wonderful you have yet to be. I affirm individuals and families to trust themselves, after the world or people have let them down. I will help guide you down the road to meet your fulfilled self by encouraging you to step out of fear, find your voice, and regain your confidence.

With over 20 years of experience helping patients explore issues related to relationships, family, parenting, and career, my goal is to engage in a way that allows for lasting changes. We all get stuck, and at times experience feelings of depression, self-doubt, or anxiety. I work to help you understand the sources of those feelings, and to transform these insights into action.

In life, there is no obvious roadmap to finding happiness and satisfaction. The mission of therapy is to explore your inner world so that you can find meaning in the world outside. Our work will be to get you on a path to living a life in which you can be fulfilled and about which you can feel proud. The hardest step to take is the first one into the consulting room, and people often feel tremendous relief when they do. Therapy can be the one place in the world where your issues are front and center, you need not compete with others to be heard, and the only agenda is your self-improvement. If done well, it is life-changing.

Despite the adversity and struggles we face, there’s often a place of hope and light in ourselves that we overlook. Taking the time to prioritize oneself takes strength and presents the opportunity to recognize one’s ability to grow. Together, we can understand and learn how to better manage the barriers that present themselves and that can get in the way of you attaining the quality of life you deserve.

My practice combines traditional psychotherapy and chakra-based techniques to reach specific goals, stimulate change and growth, and heal memories and experiences. This mind-body approach can be thought of as nature's mind-healing mechanism and all types of clients (not just holistically-oriented) take to it readily. It is effective with most issues - work and relationship difficulties, finding direction in life and most disorders especially addictions, anxiety, and depression. I focus on developing intuition, becoming grounded and productive, expressing creativity and personal power, and connecting to self and other.

If you are living with or beyond illness and loss or caring for someone who is, either as a family member/friend or professional, seeking out therapy is one way to take care of yourself as you navigate the challenges that come with these experiences. I believe that even in the most difficult times of life, people have an amazing capacity to grow, learn, connect, love, and find meaning and purpose. This can be balanced with the more uncomfortable feelings that come along with illness, survivorship, loss, and caregiving. I offer a non-judgemental and empathic therapeutic space where we will work together to find this balance.

With 23 years of experience, I am committed to guiding you on a pathway of healing. Many of my clients have a history of traumatic events throughout their lifespan, or have had a one time event that has not resolved. I utilize evidenced based treatment specializing in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as others (CPT, CPT-i, PE, CBT) to work through life experiences that have shaped negative thought patterns in order to move towards a more positive thought process despite previous trauma. The working goal is getting past the past; healing and having a new perspective on life!

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
