I work with adults, children and adolescents. I use a psycho-dynamic, psychoanalytically informed approach that seeks to understand how primary early experience and relationships have impacted and influenced current self experience. The goal of treatment is to deconstruct problematic relational patterns and self experience and to achieve strengthened connection to one's unique, authentic self.

Starting or returning to therapy can be overwhelming. With this in mind, I work collaboratively with clients to create a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that allows for clients to explore their emotions, build self-awareness, and heal at their own pace. I specialize in working with PTSD and relational trauma (childhood abuse/ neglect, sexual abuse/assault), sexual/gender identity, grief/loss, body image, and relationship issues.

"At its best, psychotherapy alleviates suffering and makes possible a richer, more meaningful life. I work with patients by drawing on a number of different perspectives. In particular, I use a psychoanalytic approach to address repetitive patterns and historical forces that prevent people from creating the life they want to live. I integrate behavioral interventions when appropriate to confront specific problems and to help people develop a sense of competency, control, and agency."

It gave me the courage to make changes for myself, and help people around me who were also suffering grief, loss, and depression.
Are you taking care of everyone else but yourself. Do you find that you have to keep busy all the time, or else it feels like you’re wasting time. Are the emotions so much bigger than you can handle, and yet people just tell you “it is not that big of a deal.” Is it hard keeping friendships, because you find that you do all the communication. Get the emo playlist ready, and let's dig into that shit together. I can help you to find ways to reduce the hold anxiety and depression has on you.

Over time, therapy helps people make profound changes in their lives, enabling them to heal from painful pasts and experience themselves in the present as more vital and alive. To facilitate this growth, I offer my patients a place to explore their inner worlds, their challenges, and their relationships to others. Together, we identify the forces, internal and external, that keep them stuck in negative patterns. It is through knowing and addressing these forces that we expand their ability to experience themselves, connect to others, and act to improve their lives and reduce their suffering.

At times in life, we find ourselves overwhelmed; in states of persistent mental or emotional distress, stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, and questioning which path best serves us. With greater consciousness of our patterns of thought, feeling and behavior, we can develop the capacity to meet these moments with the wisdom of our whole selves. By connecting more fully to our emotions, we can access our innate healing process and move towards greater integration. In honoring your unique story, we can explore how life’s suffering may be pointing you towards greater wholeness and a life of meaning.

I strive to understand each individual's issues and needs through the different phases of the therapeutic relationship. I find patterns of thinking which surface from recurrent automatic thoughts. I thus obtain a comprehensive understanding of the person in his/her functioning. Through a pro-active, attuned, caring, neutral, compassionate and non-judgmental stance, an empowering process is developed, leading to an enhancement of self-esteem. I have come to see how people can better understand themselves and their relationships, and am able to to help them make improved choices for themselves, and to live more meaningful lives.

Is it time for a change? Do you feel depressed, anxious, stuck, or angry? Do past experiences negatively impact the present? Do you need a safe place to feel listened to and supported? At times, we all find ourselves feeling lost and afraid. Things in our lives may not be going in a desired way or we may find that we come up against the same issues time and again. Life can sometimes be overwhelming and painful. You may feel like things will never get better or that change is out of reach. I believe that the trials of life can be tremendous opportunities for growth.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
