You: Your whole life, even before the pandemic, you would feel stressed all the time. A main reason is that other people’s feelings impact you profoundly. You experience their feelings more intensely than they do. Sometimes, you can channel it so this helps you connect with people, but most of the time, you end up swirling around in your own complex feelings. This has happened with practically everyone, and you can’t shut it off. The vast majority of your experience is interior. You often feel tired, and you know that this is a big reason why. Other times, you feel angry, even if you have no idea why.

I strive to be a therapist who is challenging and direct without being judgmental; is open-minded and encouraging of my clients to explore options in their lives that may be different than my own or others around them. I am someone who doesn't rush to diagnose and pathologize, but rather seeks to understand. I am not invested in the choices my clients make, I am invested in my clients making choices from a place of wholeheartedness. And specifically, I have a keen understanding of the intricacies of intimacy and sexuality within relationship to oneself and community. As long as we "fail forward" together, we are perfectly imperfect

I work with individuals & couples who are navigating the complexities of being human and in relationship with others. Those with anxiety, depression, &relationship issues. I practice in a psychoanalytically informed way with a belief that it is through the therapy relationship we can understand ourselves more fully & heal. In my work with patients, I aim to help you become more conscious of unconscious patterns that keep you disconnected from yourself & others, & help you develop a deeper connection to your body and emotions. Through a deeper understanding of yourself, you can transform emotional suffering & live more authentically.

Whether it’s in your career, relationships, or solitude we all have the means to unlock our desired feeling in these spaces. My goal is to help you do it. I hope we can create an environment to give you the tools to rethink your negative thoughts, explore emotions, and set goals through the process of mindfulness. I believe collaboration is the most important part of therapy. Therapy should be individualized for you, considering all parts of one’s identity and individual needs. Our diversity is what makes us truly special and we deserve a place where that can be seen, so why not start in therapy?

When you are physically ill you turn to your doctor, hoping they can help you feel better. Problems like depression, anxiety, impulsivity, uncontrollable anger, guilt, or low self-confidence can be as painful, if not more so, than physical illness; they can also create serious relationship and work difficulties. I have over 25 years of experience and I have helped many adults, adolescents, and couples who had received limited or no benefit from previous therapists, other doctors, or medications. I work well with people who are skeptical of, or intimidated by, talk therapy.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
