In my sessions, I employ gestalt therapy techniques like chair work as well as guided imagery, utilizing expressive arts with movement/music/visual art/poetry and/or drama. In general, I am not aiming to hand-out quick fix with my therapy sessions. Instead, I lead them to realizations or self-guidance to help each person to step forward in his/her life.

Our therapists will help you to manage your anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues.
You have appeared ok, but deep inside stressed for quite a while. You have thought about therapy, but either mental health is too much a topic to face, or you find it too hard to find a therapist who can really understand your culture and speak your language. So you decided to suffer silently. You searched Dr. Google many times too, and worried that your situation could get much worse if you don't find the right therapist to help you. Wait no more. Our psychotherapists are here to help.

Wanting to make a change and move forward, but feeling stuck? It is often difficult to get a good grasp of your experience when you have a lot on your mind. Sometimes it gets in your way of a wish to change. It can be challenging to be kind and gentle to yourself as well as to your feelings at a time. These experiences often make one feels stuck. I believe, increasing awareness and understanding of experience(s) will help you to gain alternative perspectives that would help you to no longer feel stuck and/or afraid.

Nobody has to struggle alone. I believe that much of human suffering is exacerbated by the betrayals and frustrations we have felt in important relationships. As a therapist, I hold a deep conviction in the capacity of relationships to heal old wounds and to restore a sense of trust and integrity in oneself and the world. I approach my work with each patient with humility and respect for their life experiences, and I strive to create a safe space for my patients to explore how they ended up where they are and what keeps them feeling stuck.

I work broadly with young adults who often have bicultural backgrounds and are experiencing personal issues with themselves, family or relationships. It is a difficult balancing act between you, those close to you and differing cultural norms. Finding autonomy when the expectations of others sometimes burdens us, can lead to feeling anxious, alone or depressed. You can lose yourself to these feelings at times, which is why 1-on-1 therapy is a healthy approach to process these emotions.Family and friends may suggest or want vastly different things than you. In therapy, I will listen while giving you the tools you need for your goals.

I welcome your interest and courage to search for a psychotherapist to work on the challenges you have in your daily life. I look forward to work together to help you explore, confront and transform the difficulties you have. There are reasons that you are experiencing the challenges and we can explore them together to see clearly where they are coming from and how they might be unconsciously impeding you from changes or reaching your goals. Changes are more likely to occur when this happens.

My approach is grounded in my eclectic training with a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and family therapy.
My aim as a psychotherapist is to help individuals and couples stop repeating destructive and self-defeating patterns of behavior. I do so by helping people gain deeper understanding of their issues and the complex factors that underlie such patterns. We humans cling to familiar way of coping, even if we know that our behavior is no longer serving us, or is even hurting us. Understanding why we do what we do in the present will not only help us understand ourselves but will also help us let go of the familiar but dysfunctional way of coping with life events.

I mainly work with Gender&Sexuality, Trauma and Personal Growth, and Couple/Family.
Need a space to care for yourself and tend to your own needs? I welcome you. Healing through therapy, although sometimes stigmatized, is an experience that most of us need in the current world. Our lives have been disrupted by unexpected and devastating events, which intensifies our stress, anxiety and loneliness. There is no better time to connect. Partnering with me, you can create a space where you feel comfortable connecting with your tender parts, discovering your strength, and most importantly, being your genuine self with no apology. That’s my experience as a client of therapy, and also what I want to offer you.

If you are reading this you may have come to a point in your life where you are seeking more support and guidance. So much of life we go at it alone; never speaking up on behalf of our wants and needs. Therapy can change this. Our work together may begin by defining your goals in therapy and how we can achieve them together, but it will grow to include more excitement and a greater sense of well being for you.

It is my strong belief that the systems we navigate directly impact our mental health and well-being, and that through recognition and critical consciousness of these influences, we can radically free ourselves. My therapeutic approach borrows from Freirean thought, acknowledging that individuals are masters of their own experiences and that collaboratively we will liberate each other. I believe growing up multiracial (Chinese; White) and queer positioned me well to see how uniquely multifaceted each person is. In my therapy, we will nurture a nonjudgmental and explorative space centering your growth.

Stepping into therapy and engaging in your own personal growth is empowering. We all manage an immense number of stressors in our daily lives, and therapy is a space where you can take time to pause, reflect, and grow. You may be here feeling your emotional pain has been too much for you to hold inside alone any more. You may have tried very hard to feel better but nothing has worked to heal from the pain. You struggle to feel happy and confident no matter how hard you work, and you wish you were like someone else who looks happier and more successful. You notice your constant criticism, guilt, and shame towards yourself, and find it difficult to be compassionate towards yourself. If this resonates with you, I would love to help you get unstuck and heal from this endless pain and feel confident and content with who you truly are.

I am dedicated to working with clients whose personality and life experience were shaped by more than one culture: You might be an international student or in your 20's or 30's navigating anxiety. You might have been raised by 1st generation Asian parents or one and half or 2nd generation immigrants. You might be struggling in a relationship where you and your partner come from different cultural backgrounds not feeling understood. You are in the relationship but you both feel alone in the relationship. I love to help. I work with clients individually and as couples.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
