I am a firm believer that finding a therapist who is the right fit for you is a crucial and often arduous step in the therapeutic process. Below is a little bit about my background and approach to hopefully make that process a little bit easier. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I welcome work with adolescents and adults regardless of ability, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual identity, or religious affiliation. I am training both as a clinical social worker and as a sex and relationships therapist. My background is in crisis intervention and counseling with survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and trafficking.

Therapy is both, an art and a science. Effective therapy is both, laborious and liberating; while an effective therapist is someone who has experience, knowledge wisdom, awareness, humility, empathy, compassion, and what we in the field call "unconditional positive regard" for clients. Lastly, an effective client (read: possibly you) is anyone who seeks to foster self-awareness, self-care, self-actualization, and self-love. You deserve happiness, fulfillment, integrity, and peace. Perhaps this sounds trite and rhetorical, but give it some further consideration in your gut and in your soul. Listen to what each is yearning for.

Feeling stuck? Want to bring some playfulness into your life and feel like something can change? Drama Therapy, an experiential method of facilitating change, is an incredible tool for self-discovery, transformation, and connection. As a queer and genderqueer therapist, I especially enjoy working with queer and trans folks, anti-zionists, and those interested in disrupting white supremacist and ableist systems of pathology. My goal is to co-create a space with you that feels safe enough for you to expand self-acceptance, grow in ways that are important to you, and maybe even have a laugh in the process.

My client may be a person who currently feels stuck in their life, or dealing with chronic health issues, issues related to aging, coming out, or dealing with depression and anxiety. They are seeking to feel better emotionally, function better in their lives, and connect to others in a more meaningful way. I honor the uniqueness of my patients and celebrate the qualities which make them particularly remarkable. I work with patients to achieve more satisfaction from their lives and choices, and provide them with support and practical feedback to assist in helping them resolve current problems and long-standing maladaptive patterns.

At times in life, we find ourselves overwhelmed; in states of persistent mental or emotional distress, stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, and questioning which path best serves us. With greater consciousness of our patterns of thought, feeling and behavior, we can develop the capacity to meet these moments with the wisdom of our whole selves. By connecting more fully to our emotions, we can access our innate healing process and move towards greater integration. In honoring your unique story, we can explore how life’s suffering may be pointing you towards greater wholeness and a life of meaning.

Have you been to therapy in the past? Perhaps you worked with a traditional talk therapist, gained considerable awareness, yet at the root things have not changed. Maybe therapy has been helpful in some ways, but you have not felt truly seen or met. Does your current struggle feel bigger than you at times? Perhaps it feels connected to trauma of previous generations but you can't explain why. Trauma is an energy that remains stuck in the body and gets passed down genetically- until acknowledged and felt. To heal from trauma/PTSD/C-PTSD, we need to understand how the body holds trauma as well as the wisdom and route towards healing.

I support adults in navigating trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, family conflicts, loss, depression, and anxiety, often focusing on how childhood trauma influences adulthood. Together we’ll decipher the intricate patterns of behavior that may be holding you back and grapple with hard emotions. Life is difficult, you don't have to go through all of it alone. Feeling unsupported in your current environment, feeling stuck or stagnant, or feeling that you cannot move or grow, can be overwhelming. If you feel like you're going between two different worlds or multiple roles that are difficult to juggle, it can take a toll on one's self. If some of these things are true for you, therapy can be a place for you to be seen, heard & supported. This is the great thing about therapy, this space is completely for you.

There are some hardships in life that cannot be easily forgotten. These experiences influence how we view ourselves and navigate relationships with others. There is a natural tendency to re-enact the woes because of it's familiarity. The therapeutic alliance will help us learn from the past, become more aware from the present, and establish a safe outlook for the future.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
